Harley vs Conor !

 

That was fight number 13 against mediocre turd mate and yet he found that fight very hard tonight.

For a perspective after 13 fights, Dull Boy Pakora signed a contract to fight the Klit so Connie is not being moved on quickly.

Glass chin, easy to hit, suspect stamina and not exactly a thunderous puncher - this aint going to end well mate.

 

I think Harley will have a better career

 

Conor Benn exposed twice by a French pastry chef but saved from losing by dodgy British refereeing at its finest.

I am looking forward to seeing Conor step up in class let’s put it that way.

 

Nigel Benn is my favourite British fighter of all time, I went to a lot of his fights, I was at Benn Vs McClellan..

The reason I say that is because this isn't personal, it really isn't, but Conor Benn is bang average at absolute best.

I actually feel for the young man a little because he isn't Nigel, he isn't anywhere near, I don't care about his age or experience, you can see he isn't but Matchroom, Sky and the Benns are trying to convince the British boxing public he is even better ffs.

Last night Sky were totally embarrassing during and after that fight, trying to tell us all that going 16 rounds with a journeyman, getting dropped, losing rounds and struggling for large periods is better than winning well or blasting him out.

I'm all for "learning fights" but the first 6 rounder was the learning fight, tell me what he did in the 10 rounder that showed anything he has learned? Where has he progressed?

OK he didn't get dropped, he touched down but it wasn't counted, fair enough, he was still taking shots, he was easy to hit, he looked tired and ragged and he looked bang average.

They need to take him off the live show, stick him on the bottom of the bill, against durable but not very dangerous opponents and let him learn if that what he needs, they keep saying he needs to learn, well let him learn away from PPV events.

His next opponent will tell us all we need to know about Benn, he hasn't had a genuine domestic test yet, I'd like to see him in with Chris Kongo, if he beats Kongo then I might start taking him a little more seriously.

 

This is a really good, balanced assessment imo.

I too have absolutely nothing against the lad. He has had no amateur career so he should go away and learn his trade on small hall shows if he’s serious about it. Yes, it sounds daft expecting him to turn the money down on a show like that, but he needs to think long term. The money will come anyway further down the line ‘if’ he can improve.

He looked tiny for the weight last night, which I think has been mentioned before on here. He seemed weak and was bullied a bit, he couldn’t stay inside at all. I think if he fights someone who can cut off the ring well he looks like he could be in trouble as he just wanted to run away a bit too much.

Any chance he could move down?

 

I'd be interested to see how easy he makes welter. He would be dwarfed in size compared to Eggington, Brook, Skeete, Kelly's etc.

Still no jab, chin flying high in the air and doesn't set shots up at all. It's either he isnt listening to Sims, or he's not good enough to follow advice given.

On the contrary the majority of his fights have been entertaining, I just don't know how they can step him up

 

He has not fought a real experienced journeyman yet.

 

Conor Benn showed last that he's a chip off the old block.

He weathered through the storm in the first few rounds, then knocked Paynaud down twice with vicious head and body shots that were delivered with the same level of force as his old man.

He weaved in and out to evade the sharp shooting devastating punches fired at from an experienced well schooled killer. He showed off his impressive defensive skils which he has been honing in on during training camp after the last fight which has helped him become will strong.

With only a dozen and odd amateur fights, it's no wonder he looks a bit rough round the edges but once he gets that experience.....boy oh boy... he's destined to become a legendary world champ, just like old Nigel.

Although he is at least working on his defence now, I was still thinking a bingo punch was going to land any minute Khan v Prescott style.

Hope my analysis is wrong and he does indeed develop with each fight.

That's the matchroom narrative they are attempting to push in order to build up the hype behind this fraud.

 

his terrible the amount of times he slipped while throwing shots his balance is very poor and am sick of hearing his not had alot of amatuer fights who cares theres lots of guys like that lol his just not very good lol ok he can take a shot off club fighter great for him

 

he looks like a lost kid to be honest, trying hard to emulate someone else, covered in tattoos all paying homage to someone else from a time gone by. he isnt his own person, and as others have pointed out, its clear as day he needs to be allowed to develop slowly and quietly. hes obviously tough and game but just no where near the level hes being sold as. wont end well like this. what was his dad doing at this age? he was an amateur and in the army at some point, whilst this kid is trying hard to look hard.

 

I don't see that this fight ought to change anyone's minds about anything. It was a bit of a pants fight because he tried to fight smart but he isn't good enough to actually box properly. When he just 'fights' he is fun to watch at this sort of level. And please remember, Peynaud isn't even a journeyman. He's now 6-6-3. That's basically a club fighter.

Agree with the consensus, keep him on NextGEN and progress him but please be realistic with him. If you want to see something depressing, look through the replies to his tweets. People predicting a 2 weight world champion, earnestly.
