Lomachenko may well dance circles around Garcia, but he'd have trouble landing anything. There's no doubt that Lomachenko is more fleet footed than Garcia. Mikey would be the aggressor againt Lomachenko and it would be a fascinating stylistic matchup, but lets not kid ourselves. The only real advantage Lomachenko has is his footwork. Mikey is a bigger puncher and is highly skilled at cutting off the ring.
I love Loma and favour him, but Mikey would definitely give Loma a lot of problems. Linares had success boxing on the outside, Mikey's an even better outside boxer. Mikey's much stronger than Linares, Loma wouldn't be able to phase him, or he at least only would with an accumulation of combinations. Linares caught Loma and knocked him down, Mikey's a much harder puncher. Mikey is slower of foot than Linares which is why I ultimately favour Loma, but it wouldn't be easy for Loma to pivot, find punching angles, and hit Mikey, with Mikey's on-point positioning and timing. I'm a Loma fanboy, but no way can I say Loma schools Mikey with ease. Love the style matchup, it's the best boxing match the world can make. Call me naive, but as much as we worry it'll be impossible to make, I think if both stay within 5 lbs of each other and keep winning it'll eventually happen. That's what happens with boxing, Mayweather-Pac, Oscar-Trinidad, and on and on. Mikey-Spence would be interesting to watch, but the thing is with 12 lbs of natural strength Mikey won't be able to bother Spence. I actually think Mikey's too skilled to get knocked out and he might shock a lot of naysayers by boxing on even terms with Spence through maybe 8, but Spence's size and ability to take Mikey's power means Mikey just can't win. I also think Mikey fighting Spence is ducking Loma. If he loses to Spence he only lost to a bigger man, but losing to Loma would mean Mikey lost to the BETTER man. And if he lost to Spence, why would Loma be crazy about fighting him? The luster for the time would be off the fight anyway. It could be a damaging loss too, while we should want Loma and Mikey to be at their peak fitness against each other. Win or lose Mikey might also settle at 140. And if Mikey beats Spence? Forget about it, he would think he doesn't need Loma. Mikey's pride would rather go for the Spence option because he's have nothing to lose but more to gain. But Mikey should just keep on kicking ass with whoever he can get in the ring with at lightweight! If he does eventually Loma-Mikey will happen somehow.
No way Loma stops Mikey but he does win on points. Loma would shoeshine Mikey. Loma has to careful not to get caught but if he avoids a big shot, I agree he wins comfortably.
IMO I think Mikey would be one of Loma's easiest opponents. As long as Loma doesn't get lazy/too relaxed and get caught like he did against Linares, I think that he will beat Mikey rather one-sidedly.
I said it prior to the Linares fight that I believe Loma would have an easier time against Garcia than that of Linares. I think Garcia is made for Basil Lomachenko.
He doesn’t have the height or reach advantage and he was dropped by Linares who has considerably less power then garcia
That punch was a perfectly timed counter which caught Basil coming square on. Let's be honest it'd of dropped most fighters in that position.
Shame on Garcia for using the Spence name to boost his reputation. I can guarantee he's never thought one millisecond of facing him. He beat Easter but was far too cautious and afraid of getting countered. Loma would have KO'd Easter in 8, mano o mano, at close range. Garcia has the advantage of power over Loma, but seems way too negative and apprehensive in the ring: he will get toyed with and ridiculed should they ever meet. A quit job wouldn't surprise me.
mikey and loma should fight pac at 140 and 137 respectively. pac will elevate them and add more dimension to their experience should they win. pac is still a capable atg at this time but at his own weight.
I don't think he beats Loma as well. The announcers- specifically Paulie- made a great observation last night that Mikey needs to be squared up to let his hands go. Against a guy who moves with the fluidity as Lomachenko, I could see him dancing around Mikey for the entire fight and just giving him a boxing lesson. That being said, Mikey is a terrific offensive fighter and if he can use his weight to his advantage and keep Loma pressed on the ropes or turnbuckle for decent periods of time, he can have some success against him. I just don't see Garcia being able to knock him out which IMO would be the only way he can get the win over someone as technically gifted as Lomachenko.
garcia is power puncher, but not devastating and slow, easy work for loma wide ud, if he fight spence, garcia will taste ko.
