Then how come he's not fighting the next best available fighter if Joshua is busy with Povetkin?

He has no fight lined up atm and there are several heavyweights available to fight.

    So what gives?

Where have you been? He is close to finalizing a deal to fight Fury.

If this fight doesn't materialize in 2018 then both Wilder and Fury will look like complete idiots.

I agree as there is no excuse as to why it can't happen.

And Fury's been out of the game too long and was too much of a jackass in his return fight to be given the benefit of the doubt that he's one of the division's top fighters.

It's a legitimate question to ask; why is Wilder fighting a Fury fresh into his comeback who hasn't yet proven he can still go against even a decent heavyweight when Whyte and Breazeale are available and both of them are ranked higher than Fury by the WBC?

The answer, or course, is money, because Fury brings a big recognizable name with drawing power where the others do not.

Whyte. He's more than earned his shot by now. He's done everything the WBC's asked him to do to get a shot - he fought and beat Hellenius to become WBC Silver Champion an he's fought and beat Browne in an eliminator - and with his victory over Parker he has a win over a world champion to his name and there is no more legitimate a threat in the division outside of Joshua and Wilder themselves.

Whyte could easily be ready for a December showdown and would be just as credible a threat if not more so that current Fury, given that Fury is still early into his comeback and hasn't proven he can still go yet - if Fury can recapture the ability of his prime then he is the more dangerous opponent but we simply have no idea whether he can get back to that level.

I do. Fury doesn't deserve a title match right now. I like his style, and generally the Gypsy approach of hitting and not getting hit ala Mayweather. The problem though is that he's been away for so long and hasn't fought his way back yet. Whyte, to me, has done too much to be denied an opportunity right now.

Breazeale isn’t the worst opponent you know, that said quite how he catapults up the rankings past Whyte in the WBC is beyond me if that’s happened yet.
Same with Stiverne wasn’t it,seems like if Wilder wants to fight someone’s then they just find a way of making him mandatory lol.....that WBC belt is in danger of being worthless.

Coincidentally, the WBC was the only sanctioning body to rank Tyson Fury in their top 10 after his Seferi fight. Check their ratings he's now at number 7 despite 3 years out, retiring, ballooning in weight, drinking himself silly and admitting to regular cocaine use.

    Number 7...

And this a week or so before the Fury v Wilder talks are announced.
