35 year old coming off a KO loss is now supposed to be a great win?

Look Kovalev has a glass chin and I told you guys that years ago. Expect the same thing to happen to Joshua and Wilder. They both have proven they have glass chins in the past.

 

35 is mot suddenly old in this case. Dude whenever one of these guys win its because he's a beast and all that jazz , yet the minute he faulters you guys go out like Paul in the Bible and deny you ever liked the guy.
Can't wait to see how you all flip on Golovkin or if Usyk loses to Bellew. They'll become bums overnight. Just be consistent and stick with a fighter, win or lose.

35 is usually the end of prime at best. The diminishment of physical abilities is no longer entirely masked by better brainwork, certainly by the time of the next birthday at 36.

no hard and fast rule but its a fair average. This is why all these HW defences against 36+ers are such a joke. ok, one maybe is ok, but they do it all the time now.

 

It's a great win for Alvarez and I believe most people, myself included, didn't expect him to KO Kovalev, but he wasn't outboxing Kovalev or having his way with him either. He didn't school him. He threw the perfect shot at the perfect time and voila. I don't think Kovalev was 100% in the fight (both physically and mentally) and if there ever was a rematch I don't see Kovalev being hungry enough to win, he is not the same fighter as he was 2 years ago.

I hope Alvarez will follow up with some great fights/unification and won't go the Stevenson route.

 

If Sergey captures another good win and becomes champ again? or if EA becomes a dominant champ? I’m not sure you can gauge Kovalev’s level based on the future successes and failures of Alvarez. Think about who’s in the division Gov, Beter, the Pimp, Jack, Bivol I mean all those guys can reasonably beat Alvarez and that wouldn’t/shouldn’t be any pronounced indicator of Sergeys level of prowess....by that logic I would have to lower my level of admiration for Loma based on the fact that he lost to a previously KO’d and outboxed version of Salido & El Niño. Every fight should be treated independently when you’re evaluating fighters at this level that haven’t show extreme wear n tear.

 

I bet you wasnt picking Alvarez to win, if you did pick alvarez show us the proof and I will be quiet. However if you picked Kovalev to win and he lost please dont make post hoc rationalisations to discredit the win.

 

watch the fight again and pay close attention the alvarez face in the corner. the guy looked so hungry like he was chewing bullets. desire is a helluva thang.

 

lots of things to put into consideration. kovalev already earned belts and big money fights. alvarez has not. alvarez knew this could be his only one shot. so he put it all on the line. he wasnt gonna let kovalev beat him easily. no matter what way you look at it alvarez wasnt gonna go down easy. know lets see how long he can keep it up for.

 

YEP I saw that determined look on his face. looks like one of my friends faces after they snort a line. they are ready to take on the world.

 

Exactly my point. He looked 40, unsure and unstable. He was also given rounds. My guess he turned out to be around 40 years old...had some one got him earlier in his career then we talk elite..
but, alas, he goes out kinda' like Roy Jones in the end.

remember he is still Kovalev.. We can say he was 35 and coming off a loss, but he had 2 wins I thought recently, and this guy coming off a loss was seen as one of the top fighters the last couple of years. So it is a big win, and this guy Alvarez fought great and took some punches. Regardless of anything else, I wonder how good Alvarez is. I think he might be the real deal who could have given Ward a tough fight. I get the feeling Alvarez will be around at the top of 175 in 3 or 4 years. He looks good.
