If Jersey Joe had been a Challenger for Johnson ,what s the result?
Using the Walcott that faced Louis first time round ,and given as much chance ,could Jersey pull this off ?
25 round's and rules of the day ?

Walcott liked his opponent to make the running,so did Jack.I see a dull tactical fight with the fans the loser.
Q.What punch did Marciano ko Jersey Joe with in their rematch?
    Q.What was Johnson's best punch?

Johnson never encountered the kind of skill that JJW possessed. JJW eventually feints him out of position and stops him late

This is a really hard call, I think Jack is the better heavyweight, so my instincts say a prime Johnson wins it.

hmmmm, Johnson was faster for sure and a better defensive fighter than Walcott. Walcott was the harder puncher with better footwork and head movement. It is hard to say, but I think if the fight went more than 15 rounds or so, Johnson takes the win.

I think I'd take Walcott, but that's probably my modern bias acting up again. The longer the fight, the more it would suit JJ. Probably.

My own personal take on this is the longer it goes on ,the more chance of Jack stopping Jersey. Despite Joe having a cracking good crafty punch ,he doesn't ko Johnson. He may stun him ,perhaps drop him but Jack's still there as the fight goes on past the 15 th.This point Johnson s confident ,taunting JJW and whipping in those inside uppercut s .Some point in the very late stage ,Jack nails him with one to many and drops Walcott knocking his man out .With Walcott ahead on the cards.

Then Johnson was a month off of 35 years old , had not fought for over a year and a half ,and was steadily dissipating his body
At that stage of his career, I'd go for Walcott to win a decision.

I suppose that does change thing s ,I didn't realise when Jack fought Jim he was that age and been out of action so long !And Jersey actually got better at a advanced age .

Well I don't know how much Walcott's improvement was down to having a crafty manager ,regular training facilites and a good diet.As great as he looked against Marciano [who was something of a stylistic foil for him,] I think he would have done better if it was the Jersey Joe version that took Louis down to the wire.
Johnson didn't live the life Walcott did, plus he was hounded and in exile not exactly conducive to giving of your best.

Lesser men than Johnson ,with all the crap going on in his life ,the press ,prejudice etc ,would have probably lost long before he faced Jim Johnson .And still had enough about him to be giving Willard a Merry dance for 26 round s

I think the Willard fight is one of his best performances!

I'd go with Walcott on points in 15 rounds. I'm not sure how he'd look in rounds 16-25.

Walcott was a boxer mover with defense, and had better punch than many of Johnson's title opponents. Okay, Walcott lost to Louis in the 2nd fight and Marciano in the first fight, but he was up on points during both and Johnson wasn't aggressive and didn't have that type of power.
