Why is Flores-Bryan for the "Interim WBA world heavyweight title" ?

The WBA were supposed to be reducing their number of world titles in each weight division, but after this and Charr-Oquendo they will have three heavyweight titleholders.

BJ Flores doesn't have a single win over a heavyweight in the top 250. And Trevor Bryan is poorly qualified for a world title shot - his past two opponents had records of 2-14 and 2-20!

Why were they selected to fight for a heavyweight title, when there are so many who are better qualified?

The WBA are a complete joke, in the last few years they have become the worst title organization by far.

Back in the mid-70's, the WBA was tee-totally corrupt....and ended up killing a bunch of potential great fights.

Now it looks like they are returning to their "old ways".

Because Don King (and Al Haymon) have serious dirt on Mauricio Sulaiman and Gilberto Mendoza. Theyve probably killed hookers before. Same reason Stiverne, another Don King fighter gets to be Mandatory, same reason Wilder doesnt have to ever fight anyone, same reason legitimate contenders always get shafted. The sanctioning bodies are run like dynastical dictatorships, and like all dictatorships, are corrupt to high hell, and will eventually fail. Boxing will eventually move into a UFC style set up, the sooner the better.

Yes, they have become the very worst.

WBC is also a very shady organization, and they protect some boxers by permitting them to defend their belts against journeymen and avoid mandatories. But, unlike the WBA they rarely permit fights for world titles where BOTH fighters are not genuine contenders, like Flores-Bryan and Charr-Oquendo.

Because of Fres Oquendo/Charr fight postponement and previous postponements. This fight was made because it was easiest fight to make and the rest wasn't available from what I understand. And you have take into account that Bryan is good heavyweight. He is in great shape for this. He will prove his worth in bouts to come. But I always have seen him as the talent and know that he will win several titles in years to come.

Simple answer. They love Flores. They have been hyping this guy his whole career. He fits the mold they want to present. Successful, intelligent, attractive, articulate Hispanic American. He's their poster boy.

Tony Bellew is soon going to have a guy on his resume who went on to become the heavyweight champion of the world.

He really looks like an intelligent, attractive man in this photo from yesterday’s weigh in.
