Tokyo Douglas of 1990 takes on testicle thumping Golota of the first Bowe fight (or second one).

Who would you pick and why?

I'm picking Douglas, wholly due to his determination and discipline that night.

A mentally fragile fighter (as Golota was) will eventually come apart against a disciplined determined fighter.

    Your thoughts?

golota wins 2 out of the first 4 or 5 and then starts falling apart, gets frustrated with douglas speed

Assuming Douglas doesn't get knocked out before Golata's break down comes into play then yes.

    Great fight!!

Two very underrated fighters on their absolute best, i'll take Douglas cause he was obviously more focused and determined, but wouldn't be surprised if golota knocks him out mid way through fight... Golota had good power and throwed some spectacular combos

He might scored a KD, but I cant see Golota knocking him out.

Out of the two, id say Golota wilts first.

Douglas at his best is better than Golota. And if Buster fights like he did in Tokyo, he might win every round. Late stoppage possible.

Douglas is a little overrated based on a single night but golota is absolutely nothing, i pick douglas every day.
A shot Tyson dominated golota... enough said

i agree douglas being better, also think that both were terrific at their best and could have pull major upsets against many greats on their best night... and douglas actually did

i see golota being maybe a more difficult match up than tyson for douglas on style, meaning his size, jab, and infight skills could trouble douglas, he would not tie golota easily as he did tyson on the inside... i clearly like douglas in this fight, but it wouldn't surprise me if golota stops him midway through the fight

Douglas was probably the fundamentally better fighter. But both men were known for quitting in fights and neither had the best set of whiskers. But Golata decidedly has more punching power and Buster has a worse habit of showing up out of shape. And given that both men are 6'4" with comparable wingspan there'd be no real reach advantage. Buster could certainly take this but I can also see him getting battered and stopped. Guess it just depends on which version of these two guys comes to fight.

Has Golota ever knocked out any highly rated heavyweight? Or anyone in the Top 10 for that matter?

    Probably?
There's no probably about it Douglas is without question the better boxer, mover and puncher and the thread did specify that we're to take Douglas on the night he beat Tyson and Golota from the first Bowe fight.
Douglas only ever showed himself for what he really was on one night and that's because he was so determined and fearless because of the death of his mother.
We saw glimpses of an excellent fighter in his 6 win streak before the Tyson fight but the Douglas who showed up to fight Tyson was sharper and better.
Douglas makes easy work of Golota whos only chance is a big shot and we know this version of Douglas would get up anyway.
Golota can't hit harder than the uppercut that felled Douglas in the eighth against Tyson so for me it's a forgone conclusion that Douglas wins easily and probably stops Golota.

Douglas doesn't make it into the last round; Golota wears him down and stops him late. The '96 version of Golota is game for any heavyweight of that time and the early 00s. Douglas was a one-hit wonder, similar to Danny Williams.

No he hasn't. Probably the two top fighters he beat are Dannell Nicholson who at one time was considered a hot prospect and hard hitting Samoan Samson Pouha, who was a fringe contender at best.
