Well, you are correct, although Catholics would say 'capital of the six counties' because they believe all of Ireland should be one country, not two. Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom (which is also referred to as Great Britain and Northern Ireland [six counties] ) but the ROI is not, but oddly all of Ireland is part of the British Isles, by geographical definition. Soon the ROI will be in the European Union but Northern Ireland (the six counties) will not.

no its not. Northern Ireland is a country (part of the UK) and Belfast is the capital. Republic of Ireland is a different country (not part of the UK) and Dublin is the capital. The TWO countries are next door to each other!!

Just to liven up the discussion, are there two different countries at the Olympics with “Ireland” in their names? Do they actually send a team from Northern Ireland and another from the Republic of Ireland?
