I threw Spinks into this arguement after watching the Joe Rogan vid about who his favourite fighter was P4P, the way Tyson destroyed Spinks was awesome and better than anything Roy did in his career and don`t bother pointing out the Ruiz fight because Spinks would have toyed with Jones and Ruiz at heavy even at 31, I don`t if he was scared, Tyson`s offensive savvy in that fight was second to none, nearest Roy came was the second Griffin fight but he showed nowhere near the savvy Tyson did against Spinks, comparing Roy going forwards to Tyson is akin to comparing him to Duran in the Leonard Fight and I feel Spinks would beat Roy at light heavy also, what does anyone else think? I would say RJJ at 168 is nr1. He beat Griffin with his backup strategy after countering the counterpuncher proved itself to be problematic in the first fight. And spinks at LHW and Tyson in 88 are about even. Tied for nr2
I think Spinks. He beat the best guys out of the three. Jones never beat guys as great as Spinks did. Not the same way. And Tyson was dominant, but when a challenge came up and he was tested he usually did not hold up well to that test.
Some questions are honestly too hard to answer. All three were amazing fighters. True All Time Greats. Spinks proved the most against great opposition. But, Roy and Mike were among the two most physically gifted fighters in history.
But RJJ never fought anyone even near to the quality of Tyson and Spinks p4p or at light heavy or heavy, I feel couldn`t have KO`d Cooney at heavyweight for instance, Cooney would have KO`d Ruiz in 2 rounds.
Prime Roy is in my top 5 p4p maybe even top 3. Prime tyson isnt even in my top 5 @ heavyweight. M.spinx could probably be the goat @ light heavyweight so that bumps him up quite a few notches. Id have to reasses his career and look at his career and opposition quality one more time thoroughly.
Tyson. Took apart larger men with amazing ease. Hard to do at heavy. Jones looked other worldly but is a known steroid user. Does he do what he did with out the juice also missed out on some big fights that should of been made. Spinks was exceptional and beat the best competition. Beating Larry and Gerry at heavy too wow. The Tyson fight sells him so short.
The Tyson fight hurt him. It was a very bad style for him and it exposed his weakness at heavyweight. I am sure had Gerry Cooney known what would happen with Tyson he might have gone for Spinks body more and tried to take him out early.
