With Fury-Wilder set to make considerably more than AJ has ever generated for any of his fights, what would be a reasonable purse split for the winner vs. AJ?

I would say 60 to the Wilder-Fury winner and 40 to AJ would be very reasonable considering how much less AJ generated for his biggest fight compared to theirs and the fact AJ will be the #2 in the division against their #1.

Obviously all that assumes AJ doesn't try and force DAZN on the event, which would destroy the fights US earning potential completely. In that case, more like 75-25 in favour of the Wilder-Fury winner.

Here's a breakdown for the non boxing experts on here who are having a deeply emotional reaction to the facts stated above...

    AJ-Povetkin:

UK PPV and DAZN. As this is part of DAZN's free first month, it generates ZERO in the US. Lets go crazy and say the UK PPV does a record 1.5mn buys, which it won't as there is zero buzz. That's £30mn. Selling out 90,000 seats at Wembley Stadium was worth around £8mn against Wlad. Even though the Povetkin fight is nowhere near sold out right now, let's assume it does the same.

That means that if AJ equals all his past records, which it won't, the fight might get to £38mn. Now bear in your tiny mind that AJ-Wlad did ~£45mn total. That included millions for German and US TV alone. Plus all kinds of revenue streams Wlad brought that Povetkin doesn't.

All that being said, a fair estimate for AJ-Povetkin is a respectable £25-30mn.

    Wilder-Fury:

Wilder-Fury will be PPV in the UK and US. Based in Vegas and a Showtime PPV Mega Event. If it does 750k PPV buys at a conservative $60. That's already $45mn right there, which equates to £35mn. Lets say the late night UK PPV does 500k @ £20, we have another £10mn. Remember, Hatton did over 1mn buys for Vegas PPV events on UK TV.

An extremely conservative estimate for the Vegas gate would be $7.5mn, so ~£6mn. Now throw in the fact they'll get a massive site fee from a casino plus extremely low running costs compared to a UK stadium.

So all in all we're talking about an incredibly conservative estimate amount of £50+mn.

750k PPV buys? tell him he's dreaming. If Wilder - Fury can get Whyte - Parkers 400k PPV buys, ill give them a standing ovation.

So you're comparing the biggest fight in boxing right now to Whyte-Parker? Your Matchroom fandom is clearly clouding your judgement here.

So are you saying AJ only deserves a flat fee against the Wilder-Fury winner? I can see where you're coming from but just out of pride Hearn will never go for it.

Nope, I'm saying you're a clown if you don't realize Whyte will fight 1 week before or same weekend as Fury - Wilder to steal their thunder, hence their holding back on announcing, and good luck selling PPV's in Britain at 6am on a Sunday winters morning when you can watch Whyte fight at the pub on a Saturday night the night before. If they get 400k PPV buys, ill raise my glass to them.

It’s not bigger than Joshua Klitchsko was. It won’t be anywhere near as good a fight either.

If, and I mean if, the Wilder v Fury fight generates north of £50mn it would cause a major headache for Joshua and his handlers. Any argument for being the "A-Side" is entirely dependent on money and legitimacy in the division. If they generate more than Joshua managed against Klitschko, the money argument becomes impossible to impose. When you then add in that the Wilder or Fury will be the lineal champion, the WBC champion and have the best heavyweight record by far, it becomes incredibly difficult to to impose a legitimacy based argument.

Now add in the fact that Joshua's reputation is at a low since the Klitschko win. The simple fact that Wilder and Fury are fighting has brought into question his heart and reputation as a fighting man. He will need to fight the winner in order to regain his position and protect his earning power.

All in all, if the Wilder v Fury fight fulfills its potential there is a good chance the winner will be able to dictate terms to Joshua in any future negotiations. If Wilder wins I expect Joshua will have to go to America and will be getting considerably less than $50mn guaranteed. If Fury wins I expect Joshua will have to do across-promotion with BT Sport or maybe even fight in Vegas if Fury deems it to be preferable financially.

Adding in the US interest makes it financially bigger without question.

In terms of the spectacle, Klitschko v Joshua was a great fight and I doubt any future Joshua fight will equal that either. One thing I can say for sure is that Wilder's and Fury's last fights were both considerably more entertaining than Joshua's.

How exactly is the winner going to dictate terms to the unified champion who earned $47m last year and will have sold over 250,000 tickets in his last 4 fights?

Seriously, how do you think that conversation goes?

    Quite simply.

Firstly, Joshua's gate receipts are far lower than any comparable Vegas event. For example, Calzaghe-Hopkins generated more from 14k tickets in 2008 than Joshua-Klitschko did from 90,000 tickets in 2017. Lots of cheap ticket sales might sound impressive to you or I, but it isn't going to sway negotiations for a super fight. If it did, Manny Pacquiao would have deserved 90% against Mayweather as his ticket selling power in the Philippines would be meteoric.

Secondly, Fury or Wilder will be the lineal champion and Joshua will still be a relatively recent paper titlist. I am a big fan of Joshua, but to claim he is the more establshed heavyweight in the wake of Wilder v Fury is simply ridiculous.

The Wilder v Fury winner could well be the higher earner with the more legitimate heavyweight record. If that is the case, Joshua loses his negotiating power in a big way.

The current UK PPV record is held by Mayweather-Mcgregor. Before that it was Ricky Hatton fighting in Vegas for many many years. Clearly the UK public cares far more about seeing Vegas mega events in the wee hours than they do about seing Dillian Whyte over a pint and a pack of KP. That's not my opinion, it's a proven fact,

    You're a funny guy Davo!

Half way through your post I couldn't understand why you wasted so much time running the numbers.. is this your hobby? Do work with Frank Warren?

You forgot to break down your 25-30 million estimate for AJ-povetkin based on the 38 million historic high for AJ or did you just slap a 70 per cent super medium rare conservative estimate on that too?

Look man, come out of la la land, Wilder ain't number #1 just because he beats Fury, and Fighting Fury doesn't grant him a higher split againt AJ. That's crazy talk.

Money draw ain't how you size up the quality of an opponent either... I'm just mystified with your analysis. Where's the logic.
