Is deontay Wilder's career on the line against Fury?

It's not like he has a big fanbase and if he loses that WBC to a less than 100% fury, it feels like a long road back

 

There's this thing called a "rematch clause." It guarantees that you don't have to take the long road back.

Also, the guy is 40-0 with 39 kos. He puts on the most entertaining fights in the division. If he loses, not only will he fight Fury again in the spring, it'll probably be easier for him to get other fights.

People spend half their time on this board insulting Deontay Wilder and the other half talking about how other boxers shouldn't fight Wilder because he's too dangerous.

Wilder's going to be one of those guys who everyone remembers fondly because his fights are always fun to watch, even after repeated viewings. There isn't a boring fight in the bunch.

Those types of fighters don't have to worry. Fight fans always embrace them eventually, even if it takes some "of the slower-witted" fans longer than others.

 

It isn't on the line. It is more on the line against lesser fighters, since if they win he has some explaining to do. In this fight he is fighting a guy who could beat him, so if he loses the credit will be given to Tyson Fury. I still think Tyson Fury needs a few more fights to get his sharpness back. Yet, I would not be surprised if Tyson Fury stops Wilder.

 

No lol what is with people now days acting like one loss and your career is over? He would still be in the top heavy weights

 

It’s not his career on the line, it’s a potential fight with AJ that is…many fans appear deathly afraid of that fight happening and looking for any excuse...a Wilder win against Fury is already being downplayed, a Wilder loss and AJ won’t face him until one or both of them are way past their best days, if ever…

 

Nah a loss wouldn't be the end of the road for Wilder. His purses would take a dip without a title being on the line but he'd still have a highish ranking by the WBC, maybe the Whyte fight could still happen as an eliminator.

I still think the division is vibrant enough for him to get good fights and make decent money as long as Haymon is willing to make the fights.

 

Certainly - if wilder agrees to fight fury, it will ruin any credibility he hs.

 

Both Wilder and Furys careers are online. If Wilder loses, hes a fraud who never fought anyone and has zero credibility, if Fury loses, hes a drug using never was who got lucky one night. And the rematch/trilogy will only seal the losers fate, especially if they retire after. The interesting thing about this fight is that both guys still have a lot to prove, and for the loser, it makes their years of claiming to be a champion on such little substance look like straight up bafoonery.

 

I'm not sure if it's on the line, because I don't know exactly how their styles will pan out, except that it's likely Fury will get knocked out.

Not sure if there is a rematch clause but that can change things too.

Wilder beats most guys in the division, he's power is just too much. I reckon he can climb back if somehow he lost, he's still young but he's power won't last forever.

He's 33 and his style is based on pure athletecism. He will be over the hill by 35

 

Yeah he's athleticism will be on the way out. But 33 is still young he's got a good 3 years left.

 

Since when is a loss the end of someones career, i can't grasp that thinking.

That's some new generation stuff, decades ago nobody cared about a loss and you could improve your legacy by
making an impressive comeback.

90% of the ATGs lost at one point in their careers, Lewis lost to Rahman and McCall, Wladimir even lost to a journeyman as the most recent examples.

The answer is no. Wilders career is not on the line, most of the top 10 heavyweights like Whyte, Miller and Breazeale play into his cards and he would beat all of them, also there is probably a rematch clause against Fury.

Wilder would take the fastest way back to a title bout and he would still be ranked at the top of all major sanctioning bodies.

 

Why? Its the biggest fight out there for him at the moment
