Gerry Cooney vs John Ruiz

Ruiz takes over down the stretch.

 

Ruiz is one awful looking fighter that somehow manages to mess up guys gameplans and beats people that, looking at their ring performances, he has no business beating. Cooney looks better on film but Ruiz would probably make him flounder and drown him in his hit n hug swamp.

 

Ruiz in a brutal 17 second knockouT. Gerry COONEY IS THE BIGGEST rank COWARD AND PROTECTED GLASS CHINNED hide behind my white skin cherry picking blame everybody but myself cokehead B. U. M. there has ever been. Not only in boxing but in all sports history. An absolute disgrace as a human being.

 

Is C##ney's left hook close in power to Tua's left hook? Probably same result vs Ruiz.

 

depends if the durable john shows up or the tua version .. the durable one is gonna be a rough night for anybody ...it's ugly it's rugged it's rough .. it was successful ..for better or worst .. ruiz could get it done

 

don't say anything about white skin unless its ok to say stuff about brown or black skin too, OK? I think ruiz was a pretty skilled and akward fighter, I like that. But I think Cooney would KO hum in about 30 seconds

 

First off, I don't think Ruiz had perfected his grappling style by then, but I want to point out something else: Ruiz did very very well against big guys but had trouble dealing with short and/or fast fighters.

Against bigs, he basically delivered (see Valuev, McCline, Rahman, Johnson, Tucker, and to a lesser extent Golota).

With small heavies and short guys, he struggled amd generally took bad loses (see Toney, Roy, Tua, Kozabev, Nicholson, and Haye).

I think he'd focus on taking away Cooney's hook and gradually maul him to death.

Ruiz walks in & always did. That's why the minimal hitters he faced. He walked into Tua and he'd walk into this guy. Wrong style to fight this opponent & Ruiz' punching power is not adequate enough to prevent Cooney from firing off those nasty left hooks and left uppercuts.

 

I blame most of Cooneys limited success on his team. The man showed he can fight vs Holmes and a few others.
His management seemed more concerned with keeping him undefeated while playing up this whole Irish gimmick at a time where there weren't any caucasian fighters of much value. Valle his trainer also over protected him like he was a little kid also being very vocal about turning down fights. All this doubt coming from his own team along with his father telling him his whole life he wouldn't amount to anything had a disastrous effect on a guy who had no confidence in himself already.
If Cooney would have hooked up with a different team boxing in the 80's may have turned out a bit different in the 80's HW division.
Put those rt guys in his corner and he Knocks out Ruiz cold. Along with many others.

 

Ruiz ,the older version that is survive s the initial on slaught ,to maul and grab his way in to the late stages. Ruiz then score's a couple of kds over a weary Cooney to win a decision .

 

Plausible.

 

Cooney destroys that cheater the way Tua did. Ruiz would be out cold before he had a chance to hold excessively, fake "low blows" or have "all the King's men" get him a gift decision, as happened in quite a few fights

 

You got a lot of credibility
