I’ll admit I haven’t seen the whole fight, but from what I have seen Deontay Wilder was boxing unexpectedly well. He was fleet footed and kept Luis Ortiz at a safe distance. He landed his punches and got out of range as quickly as possible. Sure he got caught a few times but Ortiz is not exactly a bum. Thoughts?

No. Ortiz was competing with Wlder, but wasn't winning. Ortiz despite neutralizing Wilder's jab and going to the body had no answer for Wilder's right hand. Even in the Malik Scott fight in the later rounds Scott was landing counter rights on Ortiz way too often and even slightly rocked Ortiz. As soon as Wilder found the perfect range for his right cross Ortiz was finished.

Also, Ortiz despite his experience kept falling for the same looping jab feint. Breland used to use the same jab feint to bait guys in.

Many were surprised that Wilder was up on the cards, if that’s any help.

Without watching the fight back, I gave Ortiz most rounds.

Ortiz did start to fade though, after the 8th.

If its worth anything to you. Here's my 2 cents.

    Round 1 Ortiz 10-9
    Round 2 Ortiz 10-9
    Round 3 Ortiz 10-9
    Round 4 Ortiz 10-9
    Round 5 Wilder 10-8
    Round 6 Wilder 10-9, close
    Round 7 Ortiz 10-8
    Round 8 Ortiz 10-9
    Round 9 Wilder 10-9, close
Round 10 Wilder wins by KO

I thought Ortiz was clearly up but it ended in knockout and was definitive enough.

Fight in a summary. Wilder was shaking in his boots doing pretty much nothing until he caught and dropped Ortiz in the 5th. Started to get confident, until completely rocked by Ortiz in the 7th, got beat up by Ortiz in the 8th. Ortiz started to gas towards end of the 9th, Ortiz was out on his feet in the 10th and Wilder capitalised dropping him twice. Show was over. Fight probably deserved a rematch. If you were impressed by Wilder in this fight, you must be easily impressed, this fight is exactly why team Wilder wont go anywhere near an in prime champion/contender like Breazeale, Whyte, Parker, Joshua, Miller, Povetkin, Pulev etc. Feel for Ortiz, they aged him well.

Luis Ortiz is a big dosser who tried to take an easy route to a belt by vacating his position as Joshua's mandatory and going to fight Wilder.

It was a deserved punishment for the cheat who not only got exposed as a cheat again before the Wilder fight happened, he also got exposed as having a glass jaw and glass gas tank when he lost the fight, in reality he would only have had to wait 3 more weeks than when his actual title fight come to get knocked out by AJ in half the time for about 4 times as much money :risas3:

Just caps off a carrer that's been so poorly managed he makes Rigondeauxs self management look like Floyd Mayweather's

More or less how I remember having it. I don't think I gave Ortiz a 10-8 round, as I remember having Ortiz up a point.

Wilder was down by at-least 2 rounds. If the old man created some distance when he hurt Wilder, the fight was over.

Wilder was out on his feet for 40 seconds and struggled to throw anything back. He fell into Ortiz once stunned and continued to hold on, from one side of the ring to the other.

He was lucky he didn't have the AJ vs Takam ref, as it would have been ruled a stoppage in Ortiz favour.

Ortiz was comfortably in front but all three judges had Wilder in front which is a disgrace

I can't remember exactly but I know it was close and could have Ortiz up on the cards.
