The definitive vote: Luis Ortiz vs Dillian Whyte.

Whyte destroys Ortiz's body imo.

 

Whyte. He'll get countered like crazy against Ortiz but as soon as Ortiz starts being more aggressive, which will happen often, he'll be beat up bad by Whyte. Close up he will smash Ortiz apart.

 

Tough call.

Ortiz is the technically more gifted of the two and has the "most avoided HW" reputation. However Whyte has much the better resume with. The only fighter of note that Ortiz has beaten is Jennings and that was 3 years ago. You could say Ortiz most impressive performance was against Wilder however Wilder's record itself is questionable and we have seen the likes of Washington and Szpilka take rounds off him.

 

Usually the poll threads are skewed too far one way or another, but I think this is a good reflection of the actual chances. I'd give Ortiz about a 65% chance and Whyte about a 35% chance. Whyte would be a very live underdog. And considering he won the last time he was in that situation against Parker, I'm sure he'd take those odds.

I thought this but then not sure if the KO loss to Wilder and Father Time will take their toll on his abilities. Then there is Whyte's increasingly shaky beard. With each passing fight he seems closer to another KO loss.

Hard to judge at this point. Old heavyweights coming off KO losses don't tend to do so well but Whyte is an overachiever who was a minute away from being stretchered out by a concussed non puncher who recently lost a decision and underwent surgery.

 

Ortiz only opponents with a pulse are Wilder and Jennings and he was dropped 3 x times in one fight .

I reckon that left hook Whyte landed to drop Parker (whom according his promoter hadn't even been dropped in sparring before) would put down Ortiz and any other HW for that matter. Whyte has a knockout of the year contender against Browne. People were questioning Whyte's power but he has proved it's legit in his last 2 fights.

 

Nah, Father time has to wait, he still looked as good as you can against Cojanu, a guy Parker went the full distance
with.

Ortiz is all wrong for Whyte.

 

Your forgetting that at this stage of his career, at his age, in the health he is in, Ortiz is tumbling down a slippery slope. 4-5 years ago, he was a very dangerous man, but he was aged well, today, it is like everyone is waiting to see who knocks him off first. He's still good, but declining. The idea that Whyte vs Ortiz will happen is laughable. Your looking at a guy who is now a PPV fighter, fighting some of the biggest draws and in prime contenders to make big fights and big money, vs a 40 year old whos response to a KO loss was to fight Conjanu after Tom Hanks pulled out. Feel sorry, I like Ortiz, but at the time he's trying to get to a cashout payday, that's just terrible management and a complete waste of his momentum after fighting Wilder.

Danny Garcia said Ortiz is the most skilled HW out there and this is against a guy who got knocked out by feather fist Parker and lost to old man shot to bits Chisora???

Whats all the big deal about Whyte anyways???

I think Ortiz is a class above Whyte but history is against him. It now looks like Whyte is going to get Patrick Truman'd again anyway.

I think it's a competitive fight. Ortiz is pretty stationary he won't pressure Whyte like Chisora did or run and make Whyte chase. He'll stand right in front of Whyte and that gives Whyte a chance despite his sloppier technique.

I think Whyte will pick up the early rounds by just being busier but eventually Ortiz will time him with his counters and punish him for his sloppy defence. Maybe Whyte can last long enough to see Ortiz gas and he'll stop Ortiz late but I see the more likely scenario being Ortiz stopping him in the middle rounds.
