This fight will be immense, for two reasons.

Firstly, it will be competitive. If this fight had've happened 5 years ago it would've been a one-sided massacre for Roy Jones, 5 years ago Roy Jones was a beast and Calzaghe was far from mature. However, because of Jones's age and 3 defeats, it makes the fight interesting whereas before it would've been boring. Does Jones have one great performance left in him? Is Calzaghe capable of outboxing one of the greatest fighters that ever lived? What style will Calzaghe use to beat this guy?

Secondly, Roy Jones is one of the most entertaining fighters that has ever lived. A lot of people are wanting the Pavlik fight because Kelly delivers knockouts. But just because Pavlik is a knockout artist doesn't automatically make him a more exciting fighter to me. Roy Jones can entertain in the ring, he will showboat and taunt, aswell as demonstrate a massive repetoir of tricks. He can do anything, counter-punch, southpaw, brawl, you name it. Pavlik is all-action but its all one thing, coming forward in straight lines behind his jab and that massive right hand. I like that style, but he's not exactly versatile.

Plus, with Roy Jones you get the perpetual excitement of knowing that at any moment he could just do something phenomenal and change the whole fight. That James Toney knockdown, or the Glen Kelly one for instance. Even if he gets beat, so long as you witness something like that you get your money's worth.

And aswell, for British fans, be grateful that your going to see one of the most gifted boxers who ever lived fight on your home soil. Thats a privilege you should all be grateful for.

It'll be disappointing just because Joe loves picking big fights against big name fading fighters to artificially cement his legacy.

The real disappointment are folks from the U.K. buying this farce.

I gotta hand it to Joe only Starbucks has been marketed better.

Lacy was also ko artists and look what happened .I feel that Joe would do the same to him ..Joe is leagues ahead of Miranda and Taylor

At this stage Jones handspeed is still good enough to make it a hell of a fight .I personally feel that this fight will give us a good boxing match not like what we saw in the Hopkins fight ..Im glad we will get this fight so that both guys can go out on a high note..

Many are upset because it appears that Calzaghe is bone picking. Jones is a fighter that has seemed to be past it for a few years now.

I personally think that its a pretty brave move on Joes part. A win over this Jones will do nothing for Joe in terms of boxing History. It will rank up there with Norris win over Leonard, Carlos Bojorquez's win over Whitaker. HOWEVER I think that Joes fight with Hopkins showed us that Joe will have problems with Roys counter right hand. Jones is a better counter puncher then Hopkins and a much bigger banger. There is a great chance that if Joe gets hit with those same shots from Roy that he wont be getting up. Big money fight for Joe, but little other reward for a win, lots to lose with a lost. A Lost to Pavlik, Dawson or Bute would be excused as Joe being the one past it....Not so vs Jones. Even though his fans would try and use it if he should lose to Jones.

Sorry but I do not share your adoration for Roy Jones Jr. I'll agree he was one of the most fantastically naturally gifted boxers ever BUT He let his ego control him. He considered himself bigger than boxing. He handpicked the least dangerous opponents he could while avoiding the more dangerous.
He let his talents erode while he played the prima donna. Fate finally caught up with him in the forms of Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson. Since he's fought two clubfighters and a very overweight tito trinidad. Now he's suposed to be fighting Joe Calzaghe. IMHO Jones does not deserve to meet Calzaghe.
Its a terrible shame that he let his ego control him he could now have been ready to retire undefeated and be remembered as one of the greatest of all time. Instead his legacy will read The super boxer that shoulda couldda but didnt

 Roy Jones is not a top fighter anymore, I just wish some people would wake up and realize, it aint the 90's anymore, Roy Jones is a B level fighter now, nothing more, nothing less.

I'm probably one of the few people that's looking forward to Roy vs Joe as well, even though I'd love to see him fight Pavlik as well.

The way I see it, even if Roy isn't what he was, he's still one of the top 10 LHW's even now. Given Joe aging as well, this might not be good for a prime vs prime comparision, but it will give us a glimpse at how an earlier fight might've played out.

Yeah, it probably should've happened 5 years ago- but that doesn't mean I still won't be glad to see the top 2 168 pounders ever (IMO) finally get in the ring vs each other.

Because there has been a lot of talk how Joe would school Pavlik and then he is offered the fight but turns it down even though the majority of boxing fans want to see it more than any other fight.

People are disappointed because Jones workrate will probably be disgraceful as he is well and truly past it. Calzaghe has really only just started fighting the big names in the last few years and Kessler is really the only quality prime fighter on his resume, this is why its frustrating that he won't fight Pavlik (which i think he can win).

Dont get me wrong I'd like to see Pavlik fight Calzaghe too, but Jones is always gonna be the better fighter to watch over Pavlik.

Anyone who thinks that this fight is a walkover for Calzaghe is a fool or welsh. Hopkins looked like **** against Calzaghe and still managed to rub him close just because he had some old school counter punching ability. Hopkins looked every bit a 43 year old ex-con in that fight, but hit Calzaghe at will with the right hand counter and managed to put Calzaghe on his arse with it in the first round. Seeing that, I can understand why Roy Jones practically begged for the fight, because Jones can pick those shots better than anyone. He can deliver a counter right-hand lead faster than anything Calzaghe's seen, and he can follow it up. That spells big danger for Calzaghe.

And also, Calzaghe doesnt have the power to bully Jones onto the ropes and make him clam up like Glen Johnson did. I think Calzaghe's shots will bounce off Roy Jones just like Felix Trinidad's best shots did, and that means he will have to outbox Jones. I dont see that happening, not now, not ever.

This is Jones's fight to lose. If he stands against the ropes passively and lets Calzaghe unload on him he might lose a decision, but if he picks his punches and attacks he wont find Calzaghe hard to hit. Infact I think he'll have a field day because Calzaghe is often lazy defensively. If Joe gets cocky and puts his hands by his waist against Jones he'll get ****ing obliterated coz no-one can react quickly enough to avoid those kinda fast combinations that Jones throws.

That's a very good analysis of the 2002 version of Jones, but unfortunately he is no longer that fighter. He can't sustain a pace, and workrate alone will make it nearly impossible for him to take a decision.

Can a 40-year old with no KOs in six years stop a guy who's undefeated and never been seriously hurt? And even if Jones does floor Calzaghe a time or two, will he be able to finish him off? Recent history -- against lesser fighers -- suggests otherwise.

    Jones is shot to bits.
