I'm sure in the amateurs he showed high level boxing skills. He didn't have the chance to in the pros, knocking out domestic stiffs isn't showing beautiful boxing, if he had shown more skill he may of survived a bit longer, like a defence?? Or distance control, when he was crowded he was crap! No no no there was no skill there from price.
A very strong opinion! I'll have to watch prices first 15 fights again most of them being 1 or 2 round blow outs.
You are entitled to you " strong opinion " mate , for me he showed he could box a bit but no where near lived up to his potential in the pro ranks , hence my original inclusion of him in my post .
Tyrell Biggs. Big, rangey, great skills, outstanding amatuer career.... but a terrible drug and alcohol addiction. Biggs literally and physically looked the part, like a champion, but was a mental Mr Glass.
David Reid Daigo Higa Gregor Proksa Rigo (pro performances compared to all that insane talent) He the British Olympian? What happened to him?
He could box a bit in the amateur ranks because the bigger gloves, head gear, scoring system and fewer rounds allowed his weaknesses to be covered. He could get away with having no jab because the Am system so rarely scores jabs anyway, usually it's the rear hand that judges focus on for scoring while ignoring things like the jab, body shots and combo's. He could get away with have poor defence and chin because the head gear and gloves ensured he could get hit and not pay the same price as in the pro ranks. He didn't have to conserve energy in the Am ranks like he did in the pro's because of the number of rounds and so could be more aggressive and active, while in the pro game he couldn't fight that way and not gas after a few rounds and so gave opponents more opportunities to be aggressive vs him as a pro, sit back vs him and you pay the price (forgive the pun) but pressure him and his boxing falls apart. Fact is he could box well enough for the amateur style back then but in the pro game he showed glaring flaws once his power couldn't bail him out. Price could box a bit as long as it was at his pace and against an opponent that wouldn't pressure him but in reality he simply didn't have the skills to compete.
Jesus Cuellar. Has that Margarito/I'll slaughter your family thing going. Looks like the ultimate badass.
Bit harsh on Pricey. Anyone that can hang with a gold medallist power puncher like Povetkin for almost 15 minutes while engaging not surviving (and not being the most robust gent) has some skills. You all think Perez does, no? Doesn't mean Dave doesn't have flaws, but 15 minutes is a long time to actually rumble with Povman when you're not a high guard punch bag.
Big Larry O. Olubamiwo looked the part but was found out to be pretty poor even by domestic standards when he tried to step up.
youre confusing 40lbs weight and 7inches height advantage as skills. if the big man had skills he wouldnt be brawling with povetkin.
