Benn, Eubank, Watson and Graham all had quite different styles and were at or near to the top of the pile a various stages. To expect GGG to find a way to beat them all is asking a lot and we don't know how he would react to a loss, I think he might have gone 3-1 but possibly 2-2.
Well if a couple of these guys were 35 when they fought a 35 year GGG, he would of destroyed them, Watson got injured but wouldn`t be able to compete with Canelo at 35, Graham was shot by 35, Benn was near this age when he was outclassed by Collins and Malinga, Eubank the same he lost 5 out of 6 six of his last fights, GGG is class.
firstly there wasnt big money moving to SMW, it was am embryonic division. But regards these fights, nice one, Graham might get koed late after leading on points substantially, Benn might KO GGG, Eubank would draw and Watto would lose.
If this thread had been made 2 years I would have picked GGG to beat or at least be 50/50 against the UK MW's of the 90's guys but after seeing him against Canelo and Jacobs I'd pick Triple Hype to lose all these fights except Graham.
Eubank couldn`t land good counters vs Watson in their rematch because he couldn`t keep up with the fast pace, the same was said of Canelo vs GGG so Eubank could never have kept up with the pace GGG set against Canelo, he had never faced the amount of jabs GGG would throw at him, plus he evaded far more punches vs Canelo than Watson did vs Eubank, no comparison. 3 rounds max. Herol had a lovely style but he would find away to lose against all mentioned when under the lights, GGG makes short work of him, he don't belong with these boys !
Herol had extremely close fights against peak versions of McCallum and Kalambay. Of course he belongs in the company of the guys mentioned above. We don't know if GG could beat McCallum and Kalambay. Of course, GG could have caught Herol. There would always have been that possibility. But saying that it would have been 3 rounds max is foolish in my opinion. Herol had a 77" reach. That's a 7" reach advantage. He was a very fast and awkward southpaw. Herol could have kept out of harms way for 3 rounds. GG has never fought anyone like that.
We do The way GGG cuts off the ring, Graham would actually have to run to evade him, he would tire under the pressure, fancy dan tricks don't work so well against a predator like the G !
No, we really don't. GG has fought nobody as good as Mike McCallum. His best 2 opponents have been Canelo and Jacobs. Herol could be negative at times. He could be overly cautious. Yes, GG is great at cutting the ring off. But as great as he his, he's got a 70" reach and has always been easy to hit. Herol was a very fast and awkward southpaw. Again, he could have gotten caught. But the chances are, GG would have been very frustrated in there, before possibly catching up to him. There's plenty of guys who went over 3 rounds with him. Kell was a former WW who caused him trouble in the early rounds. Herol has an 8" reach advantage over Kell, and was harder to hit clean. I think you've clearly exaggerated. Herol didn't fold under the lights due to a psychological issue. He was just desperately unlucky to fight 3 outstanding fighters who were at their peak. There's not a doubt in my mind that he wouldn't have held a title in this era. Although GG is a great MW, he hasn't done anything truly outstanding. He's beaten guys who other great MW's would also have expected to have beaten. There is simply no evidence to proclaim for certain that he could have beaten guys like McCallum and Kalambay etc.
I agree that GGG is a great Middleweight, that's why I don't hesitate in picking him over Graham. The tight fights GGG has had are when hes visibly slower and past his best imo, Canelo nor Jacobs met a prime Golovkin, his style is evaporating very early 30's onwards
I've no issue with you picking him over Herol. I've only got issues with you saying that he doesn't belong in the company of Benn and Eubank etc, and that GG would have took him out in just 3 rounds. Nobody said that GG was faded when he fought Brook. And Brook took him 3 rounds and he wasn't as big or as elusive as Herol Graham. Herol's size and unorthadox style would have caused him lots of problems.
none of that matters as much as toughness and chin, two areas that Graham cant match Brook for. I think the shots Brook took knock Graham out
Possibly. But then again, I don't think he'd have landed those same shots. The more negative/defensive Herol would have been, the longer the fight would have gone. There's just nothing there to support a theory of where GG would have taken him out with absolute ease in 3 rounds. He's never fought a southpaw with Herol's size and elusiveness. I'm also baffled as to why you think that he didn't belong in the company of Benn, Watson and Eubank.
Ok, he belongs in the same company as in he wouldn't be out of place challenging them, but I have a hard time seeing him beat any of the three mentioned. Watson would hurt him at some stage, Benn would be too rough for him and Eubank, although he had problems with him sparring would beat him inside 12 too. All three could ko him at any moment GGG too, same cant be said back, its just a matter of time with all four before something turns the fight around. All four could go rough if he's being too elusive !
