What annoys me about him is when he makes up little stories and appears to be belive them and tries to spread these like they are gospel. Apparently he saw fear in usyk during the stare out as he tried to break away first. To me it looked like usyk was laughing at him and bellews attempt to psych him out. It goes beyond hype sometimes, like he needs to belive it, as said, painting usyk as the pampered super star. He did the same type of stuff to Haye painting him the villain whist of course Tony himself is salt of the earth, don't want to hurt anyone, just wants to get back to his family, some of it was damn near slander. He strikes me as one of those pathaligical lairs, you get on the wrong side of them then a week later you find everyone thinks you burn down orphanages for fun. Spiteful stuff some of it.
Agreed. People do need to show a bit more respect. I'm not saying Bellew is the best fighter out there however he is better than people give him credit for. He is intelligent both inside and outside the ring and he knows his own limits. Everyone said he would lose to Makabu and Haye twice but he proved people wrong by knowing his opponents weaknesses and getting the wins. This fight against Usyk is a massive task however if he creates a miracle and wins then he becomes a great, and if he loses then he can retire happy knowing he has also had a good career.
I dislike Bellew's personality a lot but I respect him for taking the Usyk fight. He's a matchroom cheerleader who presents himself as a straight talker but in reality he reads the script. Just because he delivers his message in a loud, common tone, doesn't mean he's not cheerleading like the rest of them. However, I wouldn't begrudge him a win against Usyk because he had the balls to take the fight. He'll likely be outboxed for 12 rounds but his power makes the matchup intriguing. I think Usyk can be hit and I think he can be hurt.
I’ve been telling everyone for ages that Bellend is a lair I’m pleased that people are beginning to see through him at last
Why does it take big balls to fight someone who will likely outbox you for 12 rounds? You speak as though he is taking on Anthony Joshua or Wilder, who are likely to brutally KO you. He avoided the Cruiserweight tournament to take 2 cash out fight against a crippled fighter, and his reward is a chance at unified status against Usyk, a chance he doesn't deserve. His actions over the last few years highlight the power of media spin, good management and promotion.
I said on another thread I wouldn't comment on Bellew until after the Usyk fight. His King Kong comment riled me, lol. I suppose he is getting the reaction and attention he wants from us all.
Because he's currently on a high after beating Haye twice and is flush for cash. Usyk may well embarrass him and give people fuel to claim Bellew is a poor boxer who got lucky. There's plenty on the line for him.
If Bellew loses to Usyk it isn't going to affect his legacy... people will just say he lost to one of the best cruiser weights ever. If Bellew gets a lucky punch and drops Usyk, he wins all the belts, his legacy gets a massive boost and he can retire a champion with some more money in his pocket. It's a low risk, very high reward fight for Bellew.
It's about the manner of the defeat. If he's completely embarrassed it will obviously affect his legacy. No point saying otherwise. Despite being 34, Bellew is in his prime at his best weight. Obviously the reward outweighs the failure. But he deserves some credit for taking the fight. As I've said earlier, I don't like Bellew. However, I give him credit for taking this fight.
