This content is protected Teddy my friend, you don't think that being out on your feet against Tucker (left uppercut early doors), Bruno (left hook R5) and Ruddock (left hook R10 rematch), 6ft5 monsters, and coming back to win doesn't take mental toughness and boxing greatness? He was losing against Douglas and went down fighting, dropping Buster heavily with that uppercut for 10 seconds... He TOOK the Holyfield rematch and went toe2toe with him AGAIN, a man with a neck bigger than Tyson's himself, and who attempted to break Mike's arm and headbutt him before Mike ever nibbled. He took his beating like a man against Lennox and didn't stop throwing the right hand right up to the ending punch. Bruno was throwing BOMBS in their rematch that just whistled past his head, and Mike was in that firing line the whole time, a guy who had hurt him very badly previously...
You make a good point. But tyson could never turn the tide in a fight, and that is why he will never be great. Tyson had heart no doubt, but he never got up off the canvas to win. Guys like SRR did. Marciano was down badly when he was fighting walcott. He got dropped, he was getting out boxed. Nearly knocked his head of his shoulders.
From 1985 to 2002 he was only knocked down twice though, and arguably beat the count against Douglas. He was a victim of his neck being so strong in that respect!
Teddy seems to be going over the top lately making these incendary statements I dont know what to think
The bombs Tyson took against Douglas were huge. To stand up to that as long as he did showed the kind of heart Tyson really had. Yeah he snapped vs Holy, that doesn’t discount all the other times he battled through. Atlas is messed up with concealed rage. It’s controlling him like a angry puppet.
Atlas just trying too hard to be relevant. Tyson will never be forgotten ever in history whereas no one will ever know who Teddy Atlas was.
I think what Teddy's really saying is Tyson is a quitter, he has quit in him if things get too tough. In that respect, he reminds of me Zab Judah. Very talented, but if he feels he's losing it's 50/50 as to whether he will gut it out. For Teddy, Tyson has that bit missing for greatness.
Teddy Atlas has never made even his pro debut! What's his place to say? He has no idea what it's like to step through those ropes as a prize fighter.
He's right, Tyson went out on his shield true but he never had the greatness to pull a victory from the jaws of defeat.
