HBO Announces Today It Will No Longer Broadcast Boxing

Proves what we have known for a long time that Showtime is the A side in boxing.

 

The internet has taken over. ESPN+, DAZN, even Facebook and YouTube are showing Live Fights. No one watches TV anymore. Everything is online now

 

Wow. Well, makes my decision to leave HBO behind easier.

 

Sad. I will get rid of HBO for this reason.

When AT&T got federal approval to merge with Time Warner, the AT&T Head Honcho said the Corp. was going to reevaluate all the "Profit Centers" top to bottom, and get rid of the areas not making money, or carrying the load. Typical "ROI" decision.

 

Wow, I'm shocked. Can't think of a single reason to keep HBO now. Goodbye

 

Look back at the last couple of years, they've pretty much already left the sport. What was a banner network for boxing is all about Vice face news, Bill Maher, and nerd shows now.

On the plus side, I'll take the money I was spending on HBO and buy DAZN.

I can only speak for one American household, but I will be cancel my HBO now that they won't broadcast boxing.

 

Sad for the history but great for the future, HBO Boxing was a disgrace of late, and fighters contractually obligated to appear on the network is an archaic formula that needed to die. I see many regulars on Showtime, ESPN and DAZN crossing over to rival networks and streaming services for lucrative fights, as well ESPN+ and DAZN poaching single events. That's the way to go.

No longer should exclusive TV contracts stop fights happening, and clearly, Showtime, ESPN and DAZN have passion, interest and money in the sport, all three that was missing at HBO of late.

 

HBO is his second job...I think Max will be fine, are you being serious btw?

 

In fairness, Floyd tried to tell them, he took their soul with him Showtime. RIP HBO...
