HBO Announces Today It Will No Longer Broadcast Boxing

Wow, they must have a ton of subscribers because for me I only get HBO for Boxing & Game of Thrones, with both gone after 2019 I will be dropping it. Glad for DAZN now for sure, Showtime & ESPN can't take all that on.

 

If they don't I can't see Canelo, Munguia or any Golden Boy fighter going where Al Haymon rules the roost, which would put Showtime & Fox out of the running. I think they either end up with ESPN or DAZN, that is unless as you said they offer so much they can't refuse or make up with Oscar. But DAZN was that huge budget, can Showtime/Fox compete with that?

 

Good! That means one less thing to prevent big fights from happening. Fighter A is contracted with Showtime, fighter B is contracted with HBO. They can't fight each other. Although I liked having HBO for the fights.

 

RIP HBO

 

So what death year do we put on the tombstone? 2013, 15, 17...?

Also want to take a moment to anyone who somehow sided with HBO in the "who is doing better" argument between HBO and Showtime are the folks most surprised by this. HBO has been trash literally for years now.

That's stupid as ****, boxing was the only real reason why I even have an HBO subscription. So GOT's and boxing are ending in HBO, what's the point of having it again?

 

Sad. God i remember when HBO was the KING of boxing. You got on HBO you were going places.

 

Paying big money to guys that can't draw fly to **** for years will do this. They were always looking for the next big name instead of putting on decent fights.

They should have transitioned to the sub-135 classes more than a half decade ago when the war with Showtime heated up. Could have had unification after unification of great action for less money than they were paying A-sides in total mismatches that didn't spike the ratings either way... I don't care that "Superfly 3" had one of their lowest ratings ever. "If you build it, they will come." HBO was there to be taken advantage of. They were like the Yankees; a ballplayer's top end on any other team is X but if the Yankees want him they have to pay X+20% no matter what.

 

They at least deserve a proper send off before they cut the lights off on HBO Boxing like a farewell special or something
