For any boxer over 35 who has made decent money the onus should beon hanging up the gloves whilst retaining ones health. This is my view:

But he's shown he's still a force in hw boxing and although top guys will probably avoid him and another title is unlikely:

But really that brave challenge in that stadium in front of that many people makes a good coda to a long career.

He's at an age where retirement is possible but he's still clearly a top heavyweight I'd honestly have him beating everyone but Joshua and maybe a fit Fury. Wilder and Ortiz would be tough fights and ones he could lose but I think he can beat them based off his last performance.

So depends upon what is driving Povetkin. Now he knows he can't beat Joshua and no way Wilder goes anywhere near him so his options to a title are limited. He's already held the WBA regular belt so that's just going over old ground. What drives him to continue?

Maybe he just loves to box and if that's the case then he should fight on. But not sure how many opportunities he'll get. Can't see the Ortiz fight happening no matter how many fans want it. Not many would choose to fight Povetkin, he's too dangerous even at this late stage of his career.

no, but he should get the best training he can and work on his defensive issues. He could win a title someday. Maybe.

He's a young 39. He can still make money, He could fight Ortiz, he could fight the Wilder vs Fury loser, he could when you can still beat people in the top 10 at your weight it's not quite time to hang em up.

Povetkin had the best training camp he'll ever see again in all likelihood it would be hard to replicate his performance at the level for a 6'2 guy at 39 with years of fighting.

Hes still a top guy and I would like to see him fight some more but if he cant be the champion its up in the air, like Ortiz both keep the division stacked but its going to get harder the current guys are improving. I still think he defeats Whyte and Parker in close fights ,hes as proven as Ortiz as far as levels. You cant say he should retire as a fan.

If he could get another top win who knows ,maybe a few more fights can get him another shot but I think he knows like Wlad that Joshua is just to much so he may call it a day if he cant be number one, guys like them don't fight just to fight ...they want to be the best.

Still some fun fights for Povetkin. He may be able to make one more run.

unfortunately, each fight requires a new PED bill, so he may be fighting for some time yet.

Pov is in a state of PEDpetual motion,it would seem.

In pretty much every sport that requires significant athletic ability the athletes retire in their mid 30s and even at that point they are shell of what they were in their mid to late 20s.

So why in boxing do the boxers carry on until their late 30s/early 40s?

Are they that desperate for money? Is the talent pool that bad that even 40 year olds can compete with boxers in their late 20s/early 30s?

He should take some nasal spray and move along with his career. Make it to another titleshot.

I voted yes as I view every boxer who retires with a full bank account and his faculties intact as a victory for the entire sport.

That said he's clearly still one of the best heavyweights around so given the way the choice was worded I could have voted the other way. He could easily fight on and score big win but why?

No. After fighting Price and Joshua in the UK, Povetkin is well known to UK casuals now and can still make good money there. Fight Whyte, Chisora, Bellew, dare I say, Usyk in Moscow? Make good coin while the heavyweight division is heating up, retire after the next loss.

The heavyweight divisions just hotting up atm. There's real money to be made for the first time in a while. Povetkin still looks the goods. I still say its not incredible to say he could actually win a rematch...and beat others in that top ten. Same with klitchko in that heavyweight division atm don't retire if your still competitive. How far off are we from a money spinning heavyweight division tournament. Probably not doable with politics etc but could still be a possibility. Regardless tho there's decent money to be made. Povetkin looks almost as good as ever. Joshua just a bit of a beast...that's all.

Up to him. He can make good money fighting in Russian. He's still dangerous even if he has slowed a bit. Not sure if he'll get another title shot but don't think that matters too much to him.
