Let me start by saying Marvis is in no way a bum. Takes balls to get in with the best and he obviously had skill. But he did fail miserably in his biggest moments. So when discussing Joe Frazier v x fighter how much are people really thinking of Marvises performance? Talking about the guy who won the fight of the century but can’t win a h2h v ATGreats on this site. I have to edit this and state I DONT compare the two. Yet constantly feel joe is underrated here.

I really dont think it factors into anyones opinion of Joe, at least on here. Theyre different people, at the end of the day. Have the endeavors of Chavez Jr "tainted" the legacy of JCC? That camp may have more a point, if only in terms of legacy.

Prime Joe went 1-2 against Ali, and 0-2 against Foreman. One of the 2 losses against Ali with luck, might have gone Joe's way too. I think most fans aren't influenced by a "Marvis" relation.

One of the most ignorant threads I've seen in some time. Bravo.

One has nothing to do with the other. When discussing Joe I dont even think of Marvis.
Marvis comes from a long line of athletes where the son just was not as good as the father. That's all there is to it.

The same number of people who, when discussing Joe Frazier, start thinking of Joe Frazier Jr and Jacqui Frazier's fights.

    ZERO.

Worst thread of the year nominee.

Simple no would suffice lol. Not in anyway or shape stating people do or even should. More of his style going against Holmes and Tyson and getting obliterated.
Joe was obviously the better fighter and SHOULDNT be compared to his son. Yet with so many people picking Joe to lose in so many H2H I personally feel some people are taking that into account. By the responses I will take the L and move on lol

How can one fighter taint another fighter's legacy?

Anyway, considering Marvis had a fused neck and was injury prone he accomplished quite a lot. He beat James Smith, who crushed Bruno and almost did the same to Tyson in the last round of their fight, but Smith figured out Tyson's weakness too late in the fight. Marvis also beat James Broad, who in my opinion was in the best shape of his career when he fought Marvis.

Also, How many ATG's with 10 fights of professional experience do you think would've beaten Holmes, who had 44 fights at the time and was a long time champion, since I can't think of one?

Marvis before he had his second corrective surgery on his neck was a nightmare for bigger heavyweights, since they had a hard time landing flush on him and he would just use punch volume to outpoint them. Marvis wasn't able to employ the same strategy against smaller more skilled guys like Tyson, Tillis, and Holmes, who had the hand speed to time Marvis for well timed uppercuts and counters.

Tyson on the otherhand was simply a bad style matchup for Marvis, since Marvis having a fused neck was extremely vulnerable to uppercuts and throwing well timed uppercuts was Tyson's bread and butter. Even Joe knew and admitted it was a bad matchup for Marvis, but said the payday for Marvis made it worth it.

I remember being disappointed when I heard that Frazier had a son that fought, only to check boxrec and have a 1st round knockout to a guy like Larry Holmes (who's a great boxer no doubt, but not exactly heavy handed).

I must say, his 6 knockdowns at the hand of George Foreman is what underrates him the most. I still rank him 10th/11th, i flip flop him and tyson
