AJ v Lennox is a hard call I would like to see how AJ does v Fury & Wilder First. I think AJ beats Wilder easy but If Fury is back to his best this is different.
Watch Morrison and Povetkin, almost exact style and movement, both 6ft 2. But watch Lewis move, he is more upright whilst AJ spreads his egs and doesnt maximise his height advantage. Doesnt hold on inside and doesnt keep povetkin off with his jab because he keeps his hands to his chin like Tyson whereas Lewis hold his jabbing hand out giving him less distance to start his jab from. And yet the same prime Lennox went 12 rounds with Mavrovich. Certainly, on a good day, AJ can hope to survive the distance?
You tend to hold on when opposition punches are hurting or concerning you (and sometimes when your tired), you can't blame Joshua for wanting to stand and trade if he is comfortable doing so. Therefore, to trade you need to spread your legs to generate the power, you can't punch upright.. but to hold you have to stand up to maximise your height and weigh down or lean on your opponent. And yeah we all agree Lennox has the superior jab so he will keep his jab hand out to start earlier... that is his bread and butter really, genius of range, experienced jabber. This boils down to a question of style rather than technique. Maybe AJ can benefit from using his Jab more, but what if he's style is to fight with combinations instead?? Mike Tyson wasn't a jab guy, he was a combination guy too. And AJ keeps he's hand to his chin for damn good reason, and I applause him every time for doing so, otherwise you would have David Price moments all over the place. You should commend a fighter for keeping his hand firmly against his chin at all times. We don't see enough of this in heavy weight. There may be similarities in Morrison and Povetkins style, but by no means are they comparable on the level of quality and effectiveness... povetkin is genius at closing distance and attacking with ferocious combinations, the AJ and Price fights really demonstrated that so well. How can you not be in awe of Povetkin's inside game in the opening rounds of the Joshua fight... incredible... that would work against any tall heavy weight no doubt in my mind. IMHO
Hard to imagine AJ going the distance with a tall opponent unless that opponent can escape and run like Parker. AJ has knock out power gift... when he lands, he finishes well.
Can a duck fart... Lewis destroys the hype job, he would brutally expose him in three one sided rounds.
Lennox Lewis without a doubt. More seasoned, has that deep amateur pedigree from a young age even sparring the likes of Tyson in Catskill. Joshua and Wilder both started boxing late on which puts them at a disadvantage. Bowe, Lennox, Tyson, Holyfield and even younger versions of Vitali and Wlad would rule the roost over today’s crop.
Nothing Joshua has done so far has, at least to me, shown that he'd beat a prime Lewis. He went life and death with a past prime Wlad and Povetkin. I don't see what Joshua does better, besides possibly being bigger. Lewis had a better jab, hit roughly as hard, better footwork, and had a better inside game.
The only one clutching at straws is you. Watch some Lewis fights without sexual thoughts of Joshua running through your head. Then, if you've got half a brain rather than half a bar on, you will come to the conclusion that, yes, Lewis is better than Joshua in every way. I agree Joshua can and is still learning and improving. But is he going to get stronger physically? No. Is he going to improve technicallly? Maybe? A little but doubtful now. So yeah for me his ceiling is just about reached in those regards. We are now seeing pretty much the finished article. Experience is what he'll gain now. Bruce Lee syndrome? Not at all, unlike you, some of us started boxing or following the sport a long time before Joshua came about and trust what our eyes tell us. I think it's just you've got AJ syndrome.
Then why did Lewis have so many bad performances? Why did he lose to McCall and Rahman? Joshua has yet to lose at all, let alone to someone like McCall or Rahman. It's ridiculous that people would say Joshua has no chance against a guy who actually lost to Hasim Rahman.
