How long before Ali recedes to being a #2 or #3 heavyweight, except for boxing hipsters?

He’s already number 2....not sure Louis will ever fall from his rightful #1 spot

 

I've noticed this too, historical revisionism is unstoppable, all we can hope for is people of the future to look at things objectively, or at least most of them.

The only good thing is that hopefully Marciano can stop being the whipping boy of casual Boxing fans

 

Someone really good has to come by and catch the public's attention before Ali drops down the list. There is no one out there at the moment. .sorry Usyk nuthuggers he isn't the guy and neither is Wilder/Joshua/Fury.

 

Most rate Lewis above Tyson and plenty also opt for Holyfield above him so i doubt Tyson will ever come close to being considered the GOAT. There's also endless footage of his era unlike Dempsey and co. Maybe it will be someone current or still to come if Ali is ever knocked off the pedestal.

I've never seen Marciano get whipped by casual fans. Plenty of casual fans will either recognize the name Rocky (and possibly mistake it with the movie franchise) or not know much about him.

True. There are some who rate him (Tyson) as the best H2H but even they are fewer than 5-10 years ago. Don’t really even see him top 5 a whole lot anymore, and his time to rise that high again has likely passed now that his career and opponents Careers are finished

In his prime, well we never really saw his actual prime
because he was banned for 3 1/2 years for political reasons, he was unbeatable

I understand the lack of footage too. I find myself very inconsistently ranking John L Sullivan (though I've heard the horror stories of his prime).
