Based on last night Callum Johnson brutally KO's Yarde inside two rounds

The 1st KD was a bit "6 of 1, half dozen of t'other", Johnson got caught in the ropes and maybe should have sort of hidden in them and covered up till the ref physically sorted it out. Then again, Beterbiev snuck a cheeky shot in just as the ref shouted break.
I side with Beterbiev essentially because he put Johnson in the ropes in the first place and it's defend yourself at all times.
Shades of Mayweather-Ortiz doe....

You say it’s completely clear why Yarde rejected the Johnson fight, but fail to mention that they fight for different promoters who barely work together as evidenced when Warren made Buglioni a massive offer which was rejected.

Let’s see what happens when Yarde steps up - then we can have a proper debate.

 

Well said. Yarde is a fraud he won't fight anyone decent. He is waiting for a vacant belt against a taxi driver.

 

You'd have to fancy Johnson really. They're both quite fun fighters to watch

 

I don't know about two rounds but he beats him, I'm just not sold on Yarde on any real level.

 

Yarde already passed up an opportunity for a title shot and to fight a real contender.. he's just listening to what his team want.

And his team want a padded record. Yarde needs to stop acting big man then innit until you fight someone who can dish out same level of punishment, or more.

 

Yarde would be the handy favourite. And Yarde fought better opposition in the same number of fights in less time while being younger and having less time in the game.

Yards has ducked every threat fact.

 

I said in the same number of fights. And Buglioni is trash, comparable to a few on Yarde's resume.

 

Yeah, Yarde has had 16, Johnson had 17 at the time of the Beterbiev fight. Buglioni is head and shoulders above anyone on Yardes resume

 

70% chance Johnson wins by KO, 30% Yarde by KO. No way does it go to points.

 

I would say Yarde has a 1% (barely a punchers) chance at this moment in time. He’s had hardly any amateur fights (12?) and he’s fighting lads with very low KO records at his own pedestrian pace. That’s fair enough, they’re putting him in with people he’s comfy with so he learns, but Johnson has had something like 120 amateur fights and won a gold at the commonwealth games....they’re on completely different levels. Johnson would smash him, as would Buatsi.

I’ve absolutely nothing against Yarde. He’s only a kid but he has the same problem as the likes of Junior, Ohara Davies etc and that’s a lack of fundamental boxing ability. Athleticism alone only gets you so far, it doesn’t beat a Andre Ward, a Mayweather, Crawford, Billy Joe Saunders, Errol Spence...these men are a rubik’s cube to land on. You have to think a few moves ahead, set traps, close the ring off...you don’t learn this against journeymen in the pros, you learn it against the likes of the Cuban’s and the Eastern Bloc lads in the amateurs.

 

Good points . Maybe I should bring the % down a bit in hindsight to 20%. But still.. one thing Yarde definitely has is legit Power, Yarde would be dangerous early.
