Is he even the #2 heavyweight if he wins? I doubt he can compete with either Povetkin or Miller. Putting Fury on a pedastool after a 3 year lay off and 3 round sparring session with Pianeta isnt wise, he could be pulling a Haye for anyone knows. Much better idea where hes at if Ortiz fights Whyte, or if Wilder fights anyone on Joshuas resume.
Still too theoretical/subjective. Fights Joshua and wins ... then he's #1. What would be more interesting is a hypothetical fight between Wilder and Haye for the prestigious WBA Hypothetical Heavyweight Championship belt.
A guy that after winning the belt took years off, blew up a few stone, and then came back and looked pedestrian against two sub-par opponents? No, you don't get to become #1 on the back of that win bypassing Joshua altogether, sorry.
The only people who will think Wilder is no 1 after beating the shell of Fury will be his nut huggers... Anyone else can see it for what it is a WWE stunt to try and give Wilder more leverage..
There would roughly be as good an argument for Wilder being #1 as AJ if he beats Fury. Wilder biggest win would arguably be more impressive than AJ's. And anyone trying to claim a 41 yr old who hadn't fought in a hear and a half and hadn't won in two years is a substantially more impressive win than beating that guy, at age 30, roughly his prime weight, and two warm up fights earlier in the year, is fooling themselves.
What about a guy whose 3 best wins looked pedestrian to flat out awful in the leadups to all three of his matches with them? Let's be honest, Wlad was partially retired, was injury prone and looked awful against Jennings and Fury, Povetkin looked like ass against Price, Hammer and Rudenko, and Parker looked terrible before and after his win against AJ.
Fury is getting KTFO. I will take no pleasure in this either, this will not be nice to watch, Wilder is going to absolutely savage Fury. I would go as far to say this is a mismatch. I actually fear for Fury a little bit, I'm hoping the referee is alert, quick and very brave because he will have to get between them quickly as soon as Wilder starts letting his hands go.
Fury will win. He will manhandle Wilder in the clinches, see the windmill from a mile away, and safely school. I say this as a Fury hater, too.
When Wilder beats Fury, a guy who has fought twice in three years against the Albainian number 2 Cruiserweight and a HW ranked outside th top 50 then Wilder still won't be number 1. AJ will still have by far the superior record, beating Povetkin is not only a more impressive win than a win against Fury or Ortiz but maybe even Wilder himself as Povetkin has the better resume of the two. Beating Wlad, Povetkin, Whyte, Parker Brezeale trumps by a long way beating the likes of Ortiz, Fury, Duhaupas, Washington and Szpilka.
Not really. I'll give Wilder more credit than I give him now if he beats a fit Tyson Fury. But he won't quite be #1. Joshua's current winning streak is too impressive. Joshua's wins over Parker, Klitschko and Povetkin are better than Wilder's best win over Ortiz. I rate Wilder #2 in the division but Joshua is so far ahead in terms of resume that Wilder needs to beat him to be #1.
