Tubbs seems to be in decent shape considering all the Coke he did and all the tough fights he had.

I'm amazed at how many of the "lost" generation of heavyweights are still alive. Weight issues + drugs + the basic excess lifestyle of the 80's they all lived by...

Well, it's an accomplishment to still be alive in 2017.

Tubbs should have turned pro in 1979, like Page, may have accomplished more.

In a way it is even more disgraceful to know that Tubbs knew and worked with a man that had infinite dedication and heart and still ended up being a fat, coke-headed bum.

And how the hell did so many of these guys (Tubbs, Witherspoon, Page, Cobb) end up being both coke-heads AND fat. Aren't most coke heads frail?

Jesus. With an ounce of self control, what might any one of them have done? Well, not Cobb, but the others.

Page and Dokes are gone. Page's death was a real tragedy and I still feel bad when I think on it.

Well not all of them are still alive, as someone already pointed out on here - what's more impressive is that out of those that are still alive, they look and sound in remarkably good nick considering all the **** they did back in the day.

Tubbs was the best pure boxer out of that group. I just dont understand how you can be at the very top of your sport and not be able to just say no to stuffing your face full of food. I just dont get it. This guy had way more skills than a guy like Page who never showed me jack ####. Let food derail his career. He could have learned a thing or two from High school wrestlers. Hell I remember one of my sons living on water and chewing ice cubes because he decided to drop a weight class a few days befor a meet.

Yet, if Page came in there focused and motivated, Tubbs wouldn't have won in the first place. This guy beat Tubbs 6 out of 7 times as an amateur. Let's not get it twisted.

Understood, but Page and Tubbs weren't that far apart in skills, and being buddies, they probably shared a thing or two.

I feel Tubbs was more technically proficient and had a higher ring IQ. I just dont have a high opinion of Page

Amateur fights don't always mean jack shlt...Mathis-Frazier proved that among many others.

True, but Tony had to start from somewhere.

I understand your viewpoint, and Tony had a great IQ, but Greg wasn't no slouch either. And Butch Lewis got Tubbs because Greg foolishly left the fold.
