Is Wilder the most overachieved fighter in boxing today?

Wilder is no more '''one-trick" than Stevenson imo.
It's helped that he has fought few fighters with any real mobility and of those, none have had power to compete.

He's achieved what he should have given his gifts, I wouldn't say his career is an example of over-achievement but he is hyped beyond reason.

Wilder didn't get knocked out yet, because he is very gifted physically and he faces lower tier opposition. He has power, size, chin, but below average boxing skills. Not that different from AJ.

Without a doubt. Any world champ with 40 fights should be able to give you some sort of list of quality names they have beaten over the years. Wilders got 1 and that 1 was a sickly old man who wasnt allowed his medication, Wilder wanted him tainted. And still nearly lost.

Forget Anthony Joshua, alot of the top 10 are all surpassing Wilder and his shitty resume now. I think Wilder may be the most protected champion of all time.

Murat Gassiev. He just sort of appeared as a serious cruiserweight without any notable am career.

I would say not yet...he has certainly reached the cusp of the top tier, with what I perceive as limited skill and an unorthodox style...but he is not “unskilled” as some of his detractors might like to say.

I am neither a fan or detractor of his, rather a boxing fan interested to see how this unfolds.

I am undecided on his fight with Fury and can see either winning...I guess if he beats Joshua as well we might be able to say that...

But then again if he beats both Fury and Joshua (I am doubtful) then we might have to evaluate whether he is as unskilled (not my words) or as limited (my thoughts) as we think today. Perhaps then we would have to come to a different conclusion. Either way I am curious to see how it unfolds.

Let me put it this way: There are lots of boxers who have beaten more than two top five contenders and do not have exceptional reach, stamina, and one of the hardest punches seen in the history of their division.

If anything, Wilder overachieved by getting a medal in the Olympics while completely inexperienced. As a pro, he’s succeeded in following a carefully laid out path without any major setbacks so far.
