    https://www.boxingnews24.com/2018/1...e-benavidez-jr-averaged-2-2m-viewers-on-espn/

WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford brought in monstrous ratings for his title defense against Jose Benavidez Jr. (27-1, 18 KOs) last Saturday night on ESPN. The fight averaged 2.2 million viewers with a peak of 2.7 million viewers on ESPN, according to the Nielsen Media research.

    Damn, boxing is healthy!!

Beats all other combat sports this year according to other sources.

That's actually ****ing good for boxing!!

Like I said I think it beats all other combat sports this year, and probably the second highest since Canelo-Kirkland did 2.1 mil a few years ago.

Definitely very good for boxing, specially as Crawford is not even considered in the same stratosphere as Canelo in terms of popularity.

I did notice a large support for Crawford in the crowd, but that could be because he was in Omaha. There's virtually been no promotion on him though.

That's a solid number, especially considering it was still going up against college football. West Coast games including USC were airing live on other networks.

ESPN and boxing are good for each other. I'm glad to see this.

Compared to the Friends final episode yeah but as you say its a niche sport and as far as the niche sport goes they are damn good numbers from what little i know about whats good or not numbers wise. I had just pesumed Crawford was a PPV player, hes so good to watch and appears to me do everyting that excites an American sports fan.

PPV is what's killing boxing. Now that Crawford did fairly good numbers, Arum wants to make him PPV. In the old days when boxing was popular, only really significant fights were PPV. That way, a lot of good fights were available to the general public and boxers could develop a following. This last fight may the last time we see Crawford in a non-PPV fight.

He's starting to get more fans. I had a few friends who don't follow boxing closely talking about the Benavidez fight both before and after it happened.

2.2 million is about a million more viewers than Wilder vs. Ortiz had on Showtime. Bud is working his way up the sports ladder and making $3 million per fight.

Back in the 90s, he'd stay doing that and take the occasional, once every year or two PPV. But nowadays promoters put too many bouts on PPV and it hurts the sport as a whole.

its a great match. now they will be promoting fights to the most likely source of new boxing fans, other sports fans. reporting and promoting accomplish different things, now espn has a vested interest in getting the basketball and football fan interested in this phenom from omaha.

So it did half of what Inoue did against Payano in Kanto alone .. And that's the best audience a US fight has had this year...

Crawford is a star but Inoue is a mega star I guess
