I was watching Fury vs Pinetta and safari today trying to see if he was holding back or not and I noticed the rising cacophony of boos from around the arena. See here's the thing. Fury is not entertaining, he REGULARLY gets booed even in his home fights. Fury vs Wlad 2 was at risk of being canned and moved to Germany because they couldn't sell any tickets. THIS is why they have rushed to the Wilder fight imo. Because right now they are living off the novelty. If Fury had another 2-3 tune ups vs decent fighters the boos ould become a deafening roar, and Furys drawing power would bottom out and him vs Wilder would be a 3000 seat arena in Alabama job.
I am not convinced that Fury and his team are confident that he can beat any of the top fighters anymore and are just back for Haye like pay out. Why would you turn down a 4 fight deal from Hearn that included Kauffman, Bellew, Whyte and then AJ? That would give Fury time to get back to his best plus 3 PPV pay outs. However Fury turned this down and requested Hearn provide him 4 opponents the level of Pianetta and the Albanian CW then AJ as fifth fight.
Of course. I don't believe a word that comes out of these Furys mouths anymore. They're all a pack of liars.
You raise a good point. Fact is there is a legit reason why Frank hasnt stuck with the original plan they set out when the signed fury. Why is this? Frank says that if they didn't make the wilder fight now then it could be a long time away. Well they knew that when they announced a five fight comeback. Tyson hasnt shown anything to suggest he's ready for a real fight yet, in fact it's just the opposite. He's shown us that he needs more easing back in fights. You're theory holds as much water as any other of the the theorys been put up. Or Frank's cover story
Good point, that 2015 win is still being milked. Also there's a good chance Fury would go off the rails again during one of his 3-5 tune ups or lose one of them outright.
For me your spot on... I said a long time ago Fury will be a big draw for his return then everyone will remember how boring he is to watch. And that is happening in my opinion. Lets see what happens he may well win... I personally think off recent performances he get sparked but Fury may well win and i do think he is capable of beating wilder depends what he has left.
As if Femi’s wins against Parker and Takam were exciting? Come on now let’s be real. Femi has been messing up his bed sheets recently and needs some spectacular wins to get the Matchroom mongs back on board. No one is denying that Tyson Fury is a HW version of BJS. A gypsy running man who stinks the joint out unless he gets dropped and comes back from the brink. You won’t get me singing Tyson Furys praises but the matchroom mongs need to get some critical thinking instead they are NPC.
Its been rumoured that Fury and his management know that to win against the top guys he doesn't have the absolute punch power and they saying he is "faster, better etc" is not the case. I think they know he has limited shelf life and they want to cash in sooner. Fury doesnt want 3-4 training camps with all the dieting, training etc before he fights. A big pay day and then win or lose he be happy and leave for good.
OP : Yeah maybe your theory is right or maybe Fury has such self confidence and self belief that he wants to get straight down to it with Wilder, beat him before AJ potentially does and then corner AJ and Hearn for a showdown which I believe they're trying to avoid.
Or perhaps Fury isn’t planning to be around for long and he just wants a big pay day now. It doesn’t have to be a complicated theory.
The greater likely hood for me is, they saw the possibility of Wilder, AJ actually getting made and feared Hearn would hold all the titles hostage.
I agree with this sentiment it was simply a case of opportunity knocks. Very foolish to turn it down as it may not come around again. All three fighters have limited shelf live's.
You have a point. There is a problem however in the messages that were coming out of the Fury camp just days before this fight was mooted. Mike Costello interviewed him talking about Ali stepping up too soon (3fights) in his comeback and how Tyson was a student of boxing's history and was determined not to make that mistake. They laid out a rational case for a gradual rise in calibre of opponents. All sounded good. Then suddenly it wasn't neccesary and he was straight into a title fight. Hopefully it's a gamble that pays off...
