thanks for putting that link up. randall was great boxer who should have had a title long before his 51st fight. had quite forgotten that little tidbit!
Frankie Randall is a nice guy, he moved to our city and helped at our gym for awhile. There are lots of stories about him, at the gym people still talk about him, but he never did anything to hurt anybody and he was always willing to help other people. He worked at a factory and on Fridays (payday) there were people who lived near him lined up to ask him for money. He didn't make much money, but he'd give away a lot (too much) of what he did make. One time the local newspaper did an article on the gym and mentioned that Frankie was there. After the article was published, a group of guys from Mexico who were working in the area came to the gym. He was a celebrity to them because of the Chavez fight. He sparred lightly with some of them and posed for pictures that they sent to their relatives in Mexico. One of the guys who came in kept coming in from time to time and has since learned to speak English and fights pro now. I've heard that Frankie isn't doing well healthwise, the last I heard he was back in Tennessee, but he is a good hearted person who treats everybody well.
Never forget how he ripped the title from JCC .What a absolute shock for it's time .The rematch left me pissed off with boxing for a while !
