Gennady Golovkin vs Sumbu Kalambay At MW

Kalambay by surprisingly easy points verdict. There's just nothing real special about Golovkin.

What's special about Kalambay? He has 6 losses.

Only 3 of which were when he was prime or near it,Kalule,McCallum[whom he also beat,]and Nunn.He was 35 when he lost a split dec to McCallum.
The Kalule fight was also a split dec.
Is it a foregone conclusion Golovkin beats those three?

 

It's impossible or very time consuming to watch every single fight from the past, plus I don't want to.

I could never imagine in a million years Golovkin losing in a European title level fight for example!
Losses to Aldo Buzetti, Ayub Kalule , Duane Thomas. draw with Stephane Ferrara. They can't all have been robberies!! Golovkin would have eaten all those guys for breakfast.

Kalambay will never be held in the same regard as Golovkin, mate. You are deluded if you think otherwise.

 

The Kalule decision was a robbery and McCallum II was a super close competitive fight with lots of swing rounds.

And as you say, Kalambay schooled McCallum and took his ‘0’

Your post is literally you looking at Boxrec. That is it. The ‘I can’t imagine’ means nothing. Less than nothing.

I remember when Ouma made Golovkin look bad for a few rounds. I watched every Golovkin fight that is available (I even wrote a massive article on the history of Kazakh boxing I’m such a fan of his) but because of that, I have these specific points of reference.

Barkley hit hard. McCallum was hardly a powder puff puncher either.

Kalule did drop him, and Nunn stopped him, but given the Graham rematch I believe that Kalambay just had immense struggles with southpaws. He schooled Graham first time, but there was much talk about Graham’s falling out with the Ingles, so perhaps he was a bit one paced in that one.

That's better victories than Golovkin can muster.

 

You are entitled to your point of view, however uninformed it is , just don't expect us to give it much gravitas.

 

If you know this little about a fighter like Kalambay, I recommend you don't render an opinion on him. Or, just go back to the General Forum indefinitely. Kalambay was an extremely skilled technician.

 

When the media cards for Ali-Norton III were posted here most were for Ali by a decent margin. Do you apply the same logic there?

Very good question. No I do not because Norton out landed Ali in the vast majority of the rounds and we have the comments from the fighters themselves.

To quote Ali...sit down before you read this:

Norton said after the fight: "I won at least nine or ten rounds. I was robbed."

Neither man was hurt. Ali was very popular with the media, and still a cash cow for boxing. Norton won that fight 9-6 on my card. 8-6-1, okay too.

Punch stats:

Norton landed 281 to Ali's 199
Jabs Norton landed 94 ( 33% ), Ali landed 71 ( 20% )
Power punches Norton landed 187 (54% ), Ali landed 138 ( 35% )

So Bokaj as you can see both the fighters know who won, and the punch stats clearly say one guy landed far more than the other and did so with much better accuracy. It was a robbery, plain and simple.
