He actually went to school with my little brother in south London and he always said what a nice kid he was although that may change becoming a match room fighter.

Re. World champs I thought that watching Mitchell and he managed to disappoint time and again so I won't get my hopes up until I see him operate at the top table.

Liam Smith won a world title so yes Cheeseman could. In fact that's a fight I would really like to see.

Unfortunately I think Cheeseman will fall short of actual world level, I think he would be target practice for a Kell Brook or a Jarret Hurd.

All I could think off watching the fight was he keep coming forward but in several of the later rounds he was taking massive shots coming in. Byfield isn't a puncher but they were clean, hard digs.

As someone has mentioned Ritson Patera sprung to mind at world level someone will be fairly happy sitting on the back foot and trying to unload. I didn't see the first part of the fight but late on he looked knackered and his shape wasn't great at world level I think he will get found out.

What strikes me the most about Cheesemans defence is how much he moves his upper body off of centre line but still manages to get hit. i was ringside for saturday and there was a passage where Byfield landed a hell of a lot of shots and it may not have looked like it on TV, but i couldn't have got a better look at Cheesemans face while it was happening, and he was on the verge of going over. As has been mentioned, someone with more skill and more pop would tke him out i think. But his offense is very good.

I think a big part of why his defence will be exposed as he moves up in levels is because of his attack. By the time he finishes throwing many punches he is standing square on off balance, thats just asking for hard counters. If Cheeseman of today fought Kell Brook I think he would be stopped inside 3 rounds as he would be picked apart with quick accurate counters.

agreed. i like Cheeseman think he's a fun, exciting fighter but i can't see him becoming world champion unless the division is vey thin by the time he gets there

It takes a lot to build a world champion. Dedication and sacrifice are two areas Mitchell lacked, it cost him.

I think winning a world title and actually being a world level fighter are sometimes two different things. Yes he can definitely win a world title in the right circumstances & timing. I’m not convinced that he won’t get found out at world level though.

He’s very enjoyable to watch as he’s a busy, front foot fighter and he throws a lovely variety of shots but as mentioned by others, he’s there to be picked off with hurtful single shots. He’s a bit greedy and won’t step out that pocket preferring to use the high guard and absorb the shots. A unit like Munguia can get away with it that but I don’t think Cheeseman has the frame and size to do it. He’ll pad out as he gets older though.

I’ll support him all the way though. He’s an exciting fighter.

He can become a paper champion if that route is available but no chance of being one of the top 10 guys in the division , he gets hit far to easily and doesn't always throw the right shot imo also not an instinctive finisher could and should have had Byfield out of there between 6 and 8 and could quite possibly paid the price in round 11 if Byfield was a decent puncher , I feel Cheeseman won't be long in the game and a defeat will kill him they should move him quickly.

Who knows ? It really depends what the division looks like in the future. If Liam smith did I’m sure cheeseman can against the right fighter. I saw fowler had a dig in a interview asking who cheeseman thinks he is and stating he hasn’t beat anyone ? How on earth Fowler can state that cheesemans record is weak is beyond me when you look at his own record (and one of those should clearly be a loss)

sometimes talent is not enough , toughness was mitchells downfall , had everything bar a good set of whiskers , albeit questionable cardio / dedication , i remember hearn stating cheeseman would beat mcgregor when he was fighting mayweather , on closer inspection since then he was bang on , spiteful is the word that springs to mind watching him , big question is the chin , if his holds up he will be a world champion , reminds me a lot of darren till in the ufc , and i agree him vs brook would be boxings equivalent of woodley till at this time .
