Why did Bowe take such beatings from Golota?

Bowe joined the Marines in 1997...but got kicked out because he wouldn't get out of bed at 5am.

Whatever , it's so sad how it ended for Riddick.
It's easy to forget these are real people. He lost his family his health and his money.
He was an amazing talent on the way up. He should've been a revered ATG.
I remember watching live his fight with Biggs when he was on the way up and although he won it was clear he took way to many shots. Defence wasn't his strength and he ate up a good jab too much. These things catch up.
I think he was a good guy , a little immature and he believed his own hype. The way you look after yourself today results in how you wake up tomorrow.
Sometimes we all realise that a little too late.
The man had his flaws but he flew real high.
    God bless him.

Both Bowe and Golota were very easy to hit.

Bowe looked like a spent force after the trilogy noticebly shot IMO

Golota was a very good fighter when in the mood and he had Bowes timing down completly in fight 1 the return it seemed clear what a prime Bowe would have done but those flashes of hungry prime Bowe we're short lived

hbo went through the usual pre-fight hype before bowe-golota 1.. interviews with all involved, etc.

bowe was wasted before bowe-golota 1. he was slurring his words so bad, at such a young age, as bowe was then.

Yeah he sure was....fights like those takes a long time to heal from if they heal at all I don't think Bowe ever really recovered...Holyfield was hot and cold by this time as well post Bowe...his batteries were pretty depleted

Bowe was like Jermain Taylor; he seemed to accumulate brain damage faster than usual. His age was irrelevant since he was clearly on the decline. Add in his lackadaisical training and the fact that Golota was a very well schooled fighter who was a similar size to him and it's not any surprise that he struggled.

I feel like Deontay Wilder is a similar case. I expect him to decline quite rapidly in a few years if he isn't taken out by Fury.

A little late to the discussion...guys with pugilistic dementia don't follow a normal timeline and I think Bowe is one of them, but thankfully a mild and stable case. Benitez, Chacon, Mike Quarry, and a lot of others who took too many shots check out early or decline badly while still fighting.

Tyson knocked out Tubbs (by one punch ko) but Bowe couldn't . Tyson destroyed Golota's health and Andrew quit . Bowe didn't show remarkable punching power against Golota.

Golota was more talented. He was beating Bowe to the jab and Bowe wasn't making him pay enough for it.
