Dear lord. Tucker was a very good boxer with a marvelous 6'5" frame. If he didn't do a lot exceptionally, he did everything well.

Galento was a 5'8" fat guy who knew almost nothing about boxing. He did have natural nearly superhuman strength, as you had to to be an ice man in those days. He would pick up barrels that most people couldn't even roll and walk them upstairs all day.

But the guy was not a real athlete. Besides that prodigious strength, his next greatest asset was his mob connections that allowed him to employ every dirty trick in the book.

Tucker is so much better I think he would find a way to get him out of there quick, even though he was not the biggest puncher.

 

It depends. Tony from the early to mid 1930's when he was in good shape most likely beats Tucker, since Tucker doesn't bring anything to the table that Galento hasn't seen before. However, if its the Galento from the late 30's that always showed up fat then Tucker most likely wins by a late stoppage after picking himself off the canvas once or twice.

He was a better David Tua of that era.

 

He was a damn sight slower that Tua who also had a decent righthand.If Tua caught you he finished you off.Galento's feet were stuck in treacle.

 

No it's almost certainly Tucker who wins this though he may get marked up a little. But he isn't getting dropped .Going the distance with Tyson provided proof of his chin.He'd either stop Galento or soundly out point him .

 

Tucker's effort against Tyson is a good barometer that he would get past Tony pretty comfortably. Sure Tony would try his crude roughhouse tactics but Tucker has a superb chin and plenty of size to tie him up when need be. He's also not afraid to let his hands go in close. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tucker get a stoppage in the later rounds one way or another. Galento cuts a bit and could well be DQ'd as well.

 

And he had legs+ the "Ali knock off style" (not meant disparigingly) wasn't around back then so galento would be looking at something completely new.


Tucker was good enough to hit prime mike Tyson with a triple left hook.

Galento isn't doing anything to him

Despite what people think about Galento, he was a tough fighter with a mean left hook. And he beat many top fighters of his era.

This looks like an accurate assessment.

 

Only problem is Tyson for as talented as he was had virtually no inside game. Tillis and Bonecrusher Smith realized this too late in their fights, but once they did they neutralized Tyson's effectiveness. Buster Douglas and Holyfield went to work early on Tyson on the inside and both beat him easily. Galento wouldn't be getting manhandled on the inside like Tyson was. Tucker's inside game also wasn't that great. If you switched out Tucker with a prime Bowe, who was an excellent fighter on the inside I can see him giving Galento a much harder time. Galento also had a better left hook than Tyson.
