Ray Leonard stated on a vid posted on another thread that nothing beats winning an Olympic gold, even winning a world title, is that the general viewpoint and what does it prove in you win an Olympic gold in boxing really?

    Olympic Gold.

How many world titles are there now? That kind of devalues it.

Most young boxers start boxing because they love the sport, I doubt many start thinking they want to be famous or want millions. Remember Leonard wasn't even planning to turn pro, but then he won Olympic gold and the offers started coming in.

Many Olympic champions never turn pro and have no desire too given if they could. Roberto Camarelle for example won Gold in Beijing and Silver in London but is a police officer and will never turn pro. He boxes because he loves it not because he wants fame or money.

Olympic gold is what you win due to the love of the sport. Professional boxing is more a job or career than something done purely for the love of it.

It's a more elite accomplishment. It means you won a tournament against the best. Title belts get handed around, four per weightclass.

Should have won gold in London Olympics as well, it's a huge pity Cammarelle never turned pro.

If we had one world title per weight then the idea of being world champion might seem more tempting for me.

    Olympic gold all the way.

I thought it could of gone either way myself hence the count back was right, whoever would of won would of felt cheated it was that close a fight. Joshua shouldn't of been in the final in the first place though he clearly lost to Savon, still can't believe they gave him that one. But hey this is amateur boxing, it's not how good you are that counts it's how well connected you are that matters.

He lost one more I think, I don't remember who it was against, but he got soundly beaten by Erislandy Savon.

Olympic gold, only one can be won once every 4 years in each weight division. The WBA has 4 heavyweight champions at the moment let alone there being 5 credible boxing organizations all with champions at any given time in every weight division. Winning a world title doesn't make you the world champion today, winning an Olympic gold makes you a world champion forever. Winning the unified WBC,WBA,IBF,WBO,IBO championship might make it a different story.

Some think Dychko won, personally I thought he beat Dychko.

Dychko did well early but he faded as the fight wore on. The last minute of the last round he was gassing badly and Joshua won the fight then landing some hard shots to secure the win. It was close but Joshua won for me.
