If I was MW + then surely world title, Olympic medal won't pay you nearly as much as winning a title, one fight could set me up for life.

Depends which country you're in. In some countries you get a million in your account (sometimes tax free) winning a gold medal, others next to nothing.
And as a pro, some get 100k for a title, while others get millions upon millions.

Came here to post pretty much the same thing. The location makes all the difference for me. Some of those guys get taken care of for life for winning the gold.

1st and some 2nd world countries most people would probably choose olympic Gold. As said previously -- its out of love of the sport and technical skills and such. 3rd world countries and even a 1st world country or two -- Pro boxing world title all day. Pro boxing is monetized, and to most participants they fight out of survival or to get out of a bad situation or ghetto, its way more ruthless and the best pro's usually have much more junkyard dog in them than the top AM systems.

I think Olympic medals will make you more money in the long run than a title if you're not worthy of it. How many unworthy champions have we had in the past 20 years? You can get lucky and be Charles Martin and cash out against AJ but that's rare. Olympic medalists get paid to go on tv shows, attend schools, etc. It just holds more value compared to being a one time world champion that no one knows.

Even if they get paid nothing I think in most countries they pay these olympic medalists to appear on tv quite often, to go to schools or public places to motivate. Olympic medal just holds far more value than one world title with like 1 defense that was a loss. Now if you're Hopkins, Klitschko, etc who had a long ass reign, than I'd say the title is way more valuable, since they made so much damn money, and their accomplishments and recognition far surpasses a gold medalist.

Gold medal of Course. most fragmented"world titles" are pathetic jokes anyway. A Gold medal is legit.

Does that apply to Audley Harrison who won gold at heavyweight, only to be exposed as a pro, he`s a laughing stock, the guy he beat for the gold must have been a very low level fighter indeed.

What about becoming an undisputed champ, surely that proves much more about your ability.

AJ didn`t appear in adverts until he was a heavyweight champ, after his gold nobody knew who he wa, unless they had just watched him in the Olympics, but it did give him a good star and a good profile to get a good trainer who could improve on what he had learned as an amateur.

I don't know what you're asking though. Are you asking would you rather be AJ or a gold medalist? Or would you rather be a gold medalist or a fringe world title holder that will lose his title soon?

I'd rather be an elite world title holder than a gold medalist if that's what you're asking. But I'd rather be a gold medalist than a fringe world title holder.

AJ would completely outclass Savon as a pro like Tyson did to Biggs who had beat Mike in the Olympic trials.

World class pros are far better than world class amateurs over 12 rounds.
