Edison is no slouch when it comes to punching from angles. Not as crude as many seem to think. Watch Miranda-Eastman, or even Miranda-Banks. He throws some very hard punches from some very akward angles. Cheers Tom
Miranda is not a very good technical boxer. He is not a pressure fighter he is basically a power puncher who has a poor work rate because of poor stamina. He will lose to anybody with good work rate, boxing ability and either: soild defence or the ability to back him up. Kessler would have a feild day with him.
I agree - but he aint no Flash Gordon. Every fighter throws from awkward angles (even Kessler) but JC is just a phenomen throwing ultra fast combos. And dont forget about the speedy footwork which was another reason that Joe could outpoint Kessler. Miranda will come in looking fo an opportunity to throw his money punch and Kessler will continuosly punsih him.
Amsterdam made that post and it just prooved everything you need to know before making your bet. Both Pavlik and Miranda looks SLOW compared to Kessler and Mundine.
I'm not saying that I would bet my house on Miranda (or anything at all). But I do think that it would be much more competetive than most here seem to think. I don't believe that Kessler has felt concussive power like Miranda's before. Not from Andrade, Mundine, and certainly not from Calzaghe. That kind of power can knock plans out of fighters heads in a hurry, no matter where it lands. Head, arms, body, groin, wherever. I have a feeling that Kessler ends up gun-shy just like Allan Green. Remember, Green's percieved superior boxing skills were supposed to dominate Miranda. Did that Happen? Nope. Cheers Tom
Different fight atmosphere allows for a different speed/energy during a fight. Pavlik and Edision basically threw strategy out the window and decided and to see who would wilt first. Kessler and Mundine are more thinking fighters who utilize effeceincy and take full advantage of the point system if the KO happens it happens but they will keep the workrate up and counter with speed and skill over brute strength. But good anaylsis.
Tom. Dude. Comparing Kessler to Allan Green is not a smart move! I do think that Miranda will carry that money punch untill he gets KO'ed - and it could land for sure - but I still only give Miranda about 10% or so in this matchup.
I agree that video comparisons like that cant be regarded as pure truth - but in this case Ill bet you can take any of Pavliks fights and he will look slow compared to Kessler/Mundine.
Why? Both are fast, strong boxers with decent jabs. I do think Green has better head movement and footwork than Kessler. I just don't see anything particularly outstanding about Mikkel. Alot of his hype seems similar to the Jeff Lacy hype. He looks the part, therefore he must be the greatest.:huh Just remember to look past the fact that the man that beat him was given all he could handle from a 43(?) year old man. Cheers Tom
Yeah he probably would but what many people fail to realize is Pavlik's reach and straight punches are the key to his ability to land....it more than makes up for his lack of fast twitch muscular make up, he's also surprisingly technical and text book which adds to his accuracy and power when he connects. Look at Berto and Gambona both have amazing reflexes mostly due to their genetic make up however both will never punch with p4p power that Pavlik has because they rely more on physical gifts rather than technique and the art of the short (6inch) punch similar to the punch Foreman used to KO Moorer. Roy Jones had power and I always thought if he was able to sharpen his technique more he could have taken foes out quicker and more impressively than his record shows which is scary to think about but if he had that education and mentality he would have destroyed Tarver even after his prime.
I somewhat agree though Green seemed to be overly intimidated without even feeling the great thunder, I think Kessler will need to feel a bit more power and pressure from Edision for him to mirror the way Alan looked against Miranda. A fighters mental makeup determines how far they go....prime example would be those fighters of great potential but not mental fortitude ex. Zab, Ricardo Williams, Comacho Jr, Cintron, Panchito Bojado........
OMG. That you have completely twisted up. Kessler has lost about 10 - 15 rounds in his entire career. Including the Calzaghe fight. I mean - JC outhustled and outsmarted him - but everyone else Kessler has dominated in brutal fashion. Really, watch his fights against Mundine, Andrade, Beyer, Siaca, Lucas etc. He is freaky dominant and never gets hurt.
