    What a fighter Joe was
    Retired 46 & 0
    70% KO record
World Champion for 11 straight years
    Unified World Champion
    24 World Title fights
Threw 1,000 punches a fight accross 12 rounds
Had a near 40% accuracy record
Ability to adapt & change styles to counter his opponent
    Had a granite chin

Destroyed Lacy winning by 13 points on all 3 cards
Exposed Hopkins in his own backyard
Beat Jones Jr at the Garden, landing more than 100 punches more than any other RJJ opponent & 300 more than Roy in that particular fight

What struck me after watching the RJJ fight was that Joes performance suggested he had more left in him, maybe 2 to 3 years or 5 fights. He showed no wear & tear, fatigue or age depreciation.

Arguable THE best Super Middlewight of all time

Why did you rewatch Zaggy vs Lacy? You don't rewatch Calzaghe vs Jimenez or Evans either, right?!
I get it if you rewatch the Kessler or even the Bika fight, but Lacy didn't accomplish anything after getting exposed by Slappy Joe.

The Lacy fight popped up on my feed so I watched it and that lead to the others.
I skimmed through the Bika fight but it was a poor fight imo, a bit of an ‘after the Lord Mayors Parade’ performance as it followed the Lacy fight.

I rewatch Calzaghe Lacy all the time cuz its epic with all the build up with it all going on about how Lacy is going to destroy him.

Landing on RJJ's chin more than 100 punches more than any other RJJ opponent speaks about Joe's punching power (or lack of it), doesn't it?

How did he expose Hopkins? Both were slightly past prime but still world level. He won a SD that most edge Calzaghe on but a handful feel Hops won. It was a good competitive fight..not a great one and didn’t really expose anything other than both of thier ages...you are grasping at straws here. RJJ was well past his prime and it is hard to draw any conclusion on this one.

However the Lacy fight is a great one sided beat down. Many revisionist will say Lacy was exposed or a bum or even that they knew Joe would win. However joe was a vast underdog both worldwide and in the UK. I did a thread on this in classic a month or so ago, and gave quotes from mags websites experts etc. about 10% gave joe a chance and even then the calls were razor close.

Joe gave a master class against Lacy and that and Kessler are his 2 most impressive wins.

That fact alone either disproves RJJ having a glass jaw or that Calzaghe has any power. (or on the contrary proves that Calzaghe throws pitter patter punches)

Also Calzaghe was rocked by Jones in round 1. He was on ***** street from a Jones that was percieved to be done at the time. (he wasn't) Also Jones sustained a very bad cut which affected the 2nd half of the fight. Still I found the fight to be relatively close and competitive despite Calzaghe outworking Jones. RJJ arguably landed the better quality punches in many of the rounds.

the win over injured kessler is better than beating lacy who won nothing, and perhaps better arguably getting beatenby 44 year old or robin reid. awin over shot jones that enzo mac and crappy lebedev were knocking out is worthless, pretty much established as fact,so theres no point going there, especially when joe himself said it was worthless.

kessler is best win, just unresolved as to whether uninjured mikkel would do better outside cardiff. We'llneverknow, joe fled the division as soon as kessler was healed and froch was next. Kesler was leading up until his injury surfaced.

RJJ made Lacy look silly 3 years later. In retrospect we can say Lacy was over-hyped but before he fought Calzaghe, Lacy had a certain aura about him, in some of his fights it felt like he was a mini-Mike Tyson. That hype that Lacy had coming in made Calzaghe's win over him seem so huge at the time.

Lacy is seen as Calzaghe's signature win / performance, but he still couldn't stop him. I'm not taking anything away from what Joe did to Lacy that night, but how good was it really? Jermain Taylor beat him pretty convincingly as well but couldn't stop him either. Out of those 3, only RJJ could stop him. (in fairness Lacy naturally was getting worse year after year)

I agree that his wins over Lacy and Kessler are seen as his best wins and performances. Vs Hopkins many thought he lost and vs RJJ many thought RJJ was done and he still got knocked down and was in trouble early on.

agreed - expose a man in his midforties , by hairline split decision, not a great post.
still a win though. when all you got is an unresolved kessler win, its no wonder SD over mid40s man is a highlight worth lying about.
