Quote from another thread:I know for a fact that Moorer knocks out Joshua and Wilder. Did Moorer really have that kind of ability? Would he win a major world title?
He'd do ok outside of Fury and Joshua, those two I think are to big with skills. Pov sparks him also...The rest he probably beats
He'd most likely win the unified title, but wouldn't hold it for very long. Moorer had all of the ability in the world, but sometimes seemed to be mentally challenged.
He'd easily be the best contender, and I think if he fought Fury, AJ and Wilder, he'd catch a loss against one of them. Moorer was too unfocused and inconsistent to be a long reigning champ
Wilder`s reach would be a huge problem for Moorer, even Foreman was able to get through to Moorer and Wilder is far quicker than the older Foreman was.
He was very lucky to do as well as he did, catching Evan Fields when the man was having some sort of heart attack. Joshua would knock in out in 1-3 rounds, and Fury would outbox him with ease. Whyte, Chisora, and Wilder would be even fights.
Wilder always has his lead hand extended, Lewis kept his lead hand extended so the jab didn`t travel far, Lewis landed and threw more jabs than Wilder does, but Wilder`s 1-2 is extra quick.
Wilder is quick with has huge power and reach but he leaves himself extremely open to be countered his balance is awful. A guy like Moorer who was accurate, powerful as well having very good handspeed himself and an awkward southpaw could catch Wilder with big shots they practically weight the same too.
I think MM would do very well against today's heavyweights. He is a very underrated three time champ in a tough era of heavyweights. People that don't like him love to point out that he lost to a 45 year old George Foreman but the reality is he got caught by arguably the hardest puncher in the history of the division after pretty much dominating Foreman for 10 rounds. The could box, punch and had rons of heart climbing off the deck in multiple fights. He didn't have a great chin but then again his only Ko losses where to Foreman and Tua. Those two could punch a little.
Wilder would lay him out. Joshua probably stops him, but he'd be able to perform better than Takam if he avoids getting taken out early. Usyk outboxes him. I think Miller would grind him down and stop him. Povetkin, Pulev, and Ortiz could go either way due to their age and Moorer's chin/inconsistency. Most likely beats Whyte, Brezeale, Chisora, Ruiz, Parker and Kownacki. There are some up and coming guys who I'm not familiar enough with. He would be better served in the WBSS especially since Usyk is gone. He could win that.
Calling Moorer a three time champ is embellishing the truth a little bit. He won the WBO belt which was lightly regarded and vacant against Bert Cooper who didn't deserve to be there. He won the vacant IBF against Schultz and defended against Botha who was stripped, but Holyfield and Tyson were the guys who mattered at that time. Being a unified lineal champ is great enough.
In tier 1 fights, he went 1-1 with Holyfield. In tier 2 fights, he went 3-2 beating Schultz, Jirov and Botha, and losing to Foreman and Tua. He also beat Cooper, Vaughn Bean, and Stewart who I would call tier 3.
Lewis' wins aren't analagous at all except for McCall...not gonna break those down. I agree about Holyfield not really being a 4 time champ...at least it shouldn't be thrown around as fact as if he were ruling the divison.
