Fantastic job by Jack Reiss. This was almost the same exact situation as when Pirog separated Daniel Jacobs from his senses. Robert Byrd waved the fight off without giving Jacobs his full count, and Jacobs immediately tried to sit up, with Byrd restraining him and pushing him back down, almost as if to cover himself from the early stoppage. Fury was laid out, in a very similar manner by Wilder. Jack Reiss though, gave Fury his full count, and what do you know, Fury made his way back to his feet, and even hurt Wilder soon after.
Yes, great job by Reiss. People who complaining about the count do not understand that it's not simply counting to 10 and then waving it off, it's more about giving him a fair chance to beat the count and Reiss did it quite well, it was a normal count and Fury beat it although it was close but he clearly beat it. Fury was about to get up at the count of 6, he made it to his feet at 9 and he wasn't wobbling, he reacted to the commands and as we saw he recovered well as he was dominating the rest of the round.
Great job by ref. Fury was clear eyed and breathing normal big part of why he rightly didn’t wave it off
I totally agree. Two of the judges may have ruined the correct outcome, but the refereeing was top class - can't fault him throughout the fight.
Never really understand why refs don't give themselves and the knocked down boxer the time they are allowed to take, to assess the situation before calling a fight off. It's not like any medical attention is administered in those seconds between a fighter falling heavily and the stoppage...
I agree. I find that the American referees are the better ones for doing this. It rarely ever happens with UK refs. Amir Khan against Garcia springs to mind, ref gave him an extra second or two to assess if he was fit to continue, before he waved it off. Too often I see fighters get up at 9 or just before 10 and the ref just waves it off, for no good reason. If a fighter beats the count, then the ref should do the usual, walk to me, takes a look at there eyes etc before they should wave it off if they decide the fighter isnt fit to continue.
Yeah we are quick to slag off refs but he was brilliant last night. Don't understand why people are criticising the count.
I commented on a thread a while back that Jack is one of my favourite refs in the game atm, doesnt get in the way of the action and lets the fight play out
Yep. A lot of refs would have jumped in and made a dramatic wave off when Fury went down on his back, just like the Jacobs fight. Great job by Reiss, that's how you ref
I agree Pirog-Jacobs never settled well with me. Holding Jacobs down was weird AF Jacobs even said something like "IM OK GET OFF ME"
