I dont think the question is whether or not Oscar could win. My question is, in a 15 rounder does Oscar last the distance?
Oscar was a 10-round fighter in a 12-round era. His stamina in the latter part of fights was a bit questionable. Depends on what type of fight it is. I would expect it to be pretty cagey but I think if it broke out into a proper fight, that would give Leonard a big advantage. Still, I see Oscar surviving, even at 15 rounds but losing a clear decision.
Probably not, the gas tank might run out .. but Prime Oscar 1997 and his jab on point that night will score points and keep this competitive imo .. but in the championship rounds those combos are coming from Ray both to the head and body and the ref probably is going to wave this one off
This. As much as I like Oscar he lost to Mosley and Trinidad, who are both inferior fighters in comparison to Leonard.
In fairness, two of those decisions were robberies. More importantly though, neither the fast-handed Mosley or extremely hard-hitting Trinidad ever really hurt De la Hoya or came close to stopping him.
Still think he schooled Trinidad and beat Shane clearly in the second fight. First Shane fight should have been a draw.
Most forget how viscous a body puncher Leonard could be, Deloyhoya had a very good jab, but nowhere near as fast or hard as Hearns, I see Leonard doing almost what he did with Hearns. Delyhoya comes out and goes into overdrive with his jab, early on he would give Leonard problems with it, But Leonard would get off his toes, become flatfooted ,start countering that jab with hooks, and straight hands to the body, Hoya had a excellent left hook, but not a great right hand, Leonard would know that and set up his defense accordingly. Sooner than Later one those hooks to the body turns over to a hook to the head, stuns Hoya, Leonard unlike Trinidad and Mosley had excellent killer instincts ,would follow up on his advantage, take a few shots being aggressive , but nevertheless walk through Hoya's attempt to retaliate and stop him between the 9th-12th rds
