    Reports are he’s not doing too well and this would confirm it. Being in a coma, even if it’s artificial, for this long means he won’t be the same again if he pulls through the worst of it.

    Bummed to hear it....seeing a situation like this and what happens to the survivor's quality of life- Colon, Mago, G-Man, Gutknecht, and many more- makes it tough to be a fan.

    As much as I enjoy the sport, I see where those wanting it banned are coming from.

    Thing is, what helps Boxing keep going is the fact deaths occur in a lot of sports, even cricket. It will always have its knockers though

    People get hurt and/or die participating in sports, it's a sad reality but the athletes in the arena know the risks and wouldn't have it any other way.

    Banning talk is stupid. Why don't we ban the NFL? Or professional wrestling? Or any one of a number of equally dangerous sports? Or hiking and rock climbing, where many more people die? Or driving? Or any one of a number of professions that are not only dangerous, but morally bad?

    Boxing is in many ways the purest sport on the planet. Its a personal tragedy for Stevenson, as for Mago and all the others. But they are warriors who knew what they were getting into. Boxing shouldn't be banned, and talk of it is the pinnacle of hypocrisy for society.

    When these type of accidents occur it's usually from an already existing problem eg. a bloodclot or swelling which was exacerbated during the fight.

    Today fighters get medical check ups and brain scans to be sanctioned to fight from what I understand. If Stevenson had his brain scanned recently prior to the fight it would be wise for his family to take the scans to 2-3 neurologist to see if they can spot something abnormal that who and whatever sanctioned him missed and sue if necessary. If not, brain scans before and after the fights in combat sports should absolutely become mandatory.

    Cost prohibitive. Plus scheduling. Such scans would need to take place the day of the weigh in or the day before to make sure that nothing happened during sparring.

    Yeah, true. But mandatory scans every few months wouldn't hurt and should be enforced on fighters like drug testing.
