ITV ink 3 year deal with PBC

Genuinely doubt think they will be that daft and keep only the top fights for PPV and use itv free to air to build them! I hope so anyway.
Surely the hate of so many ppvs online and the amount of streaming isn't going unnoticed?
They did have the big cards on boxnation and sky but you had to pay for them while getting substandard "free" British cards while being expected to pay for so many PPVs. ITV have a huge opportunity to really make a go of this if they do it properly and don't get greedy

 

I can flip it around and say BT control the telecommunications network in this country. They are the number one in broadband and fixed lines. Which Sky have always wanted to become. BT is a larger company
than Sky.

They work together a lot also. At a lot of Sky Box Office Events, such as Joshua fights, don’t you see the BT Vans that are their. Where do you think your signal is coming and exchanging from ? Yes BT Lines

So no point turning this into a BT v Sky fight.
BT have shown when they did compete they won a goid amount of battles. Champions League, Ashes and making Sky pay FOUR Billion Pounds for the Preimer League

BT have done their bit as a true patriot of Britain. Sky is a American Funded Company which i hope burns to the shitter one day

 

Eleven sports on the brink of going bust. Suggests the dazn model doesn't work here ( unless you have top tier football rights which cost billions)

 

I’d be amazed if more than six of these cards per year end up on PPV which would mean the other nine would be free to air.

 

Some of you are a bit disillusioned here trying to say BT are in trouble and insinuating no issue for SKY.

BT are behemoth, they employee over 100k people, and turnover 25 Billion, Sky make less than 50% of that.

Over a short period of time entering the sports world, there taking more and more live events. Champions league, ever increasing premier league, partners with Boxnation, Domination of MotoGP. There not likely to stop either when TV customers have increase by more than 150% and broadband customers by 48%.

BT have also been smart. They pay 1.1m on average per game for champions league, 7.6m for the premier league games they have, in comparison to Skys 11m per premier league game.

Sky have had a fall in viewing across the board and will only have bigger issues as companies like ITV enter the game further. Great news for the consumers, the more competition, the better the prices for us.

 

BT have publicly said they are taking a step back from big spending now. Change at the top of the guy who ran the sports channels etc.

How this plays out who knows but their boxing division isn't exactly flying right now. And Frampton is off to itv after this ppv so other than Fury who the **** do they have thats a big name? Warrington isn't.

 

BT are a huge company but that doesn't mean their televised sport platform is.

What do BT show which would entice the casual viewer to sign up? Football is miles ahead of everything else in terms of sporting viewers and Sky just have a lot more of it. Mentioning Moto GP is fine, but you know the comeback is that Sky have Formula 1 which is a lot more popular. BT show club cup rugby. Sky show the big internationals. BT show BDO darts. Sky show the PDC. BT show cricket in Australia. Sky show cricket in England.

The big issue for boxing fans is that Warren is the BDO to Hearn's PDC. Yes, it might be the older, original and 'real' thing, but it's just not as appealing to the wider audience.

Not that competition isn't good. I don't want to pay as much as I do for what Sky produce, or BT for that matter. But objectively, I can see why BT would be concerned. It feels like the first to go if you're dropping something.

 

Is that part about Frampton true? If so Frampton will need a KO to win on December 22. If there is the slightest bit of truth in that Warren will have the scorecards in Josh's favour already.

Just had a look at the fixtures over Christmas and New Year.

Sky have Liverpool Man Utd, Arsenal Spurs, Man City Liverpool and Spurs Man Utd. In addition to that, sixteen more Premier League games in a month including Palace Chelsea, Everton Spurs and Newcastle Man Utd, what appear to be all of the biggest Championship games (Forest Derby, Villa Leeds), Rangers Celtic and the Edinburgh derby.

BT have Liverpool Arsenal, Cardiff Man Utd and Fulham West Ham for December and that's about it.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but if you wanted to watch domestic football there's not a question about who is offering you more out of that lot.

 

You seem to want to talk about who shows the best TV? I was highlighting that BT are massive and alongside with ITV are sticking it to sky to reduce our costs. What we should worry about is good competition and year on year Sky are losing there monopoly. ****ing fantastic.

I think your missing the point, They don't have to Sustain massive Sports spending, that would never have been a long term plan as its unsustainable. They had to do that to get there cut of the pie in the beginning. Now they can sack of the sports that aren't doing great, reducing costs. Increase football and get rid of NBA as an example.

The fundamental key topic here is, more competition destroys Skys monopoly which reduces our costs and a big company like BT can do that.

I know what your saying having everything under one umbrella but my original point was BT are one of many companies that are taking and ever increasing cut from sky, year on year. 40 odd games in the premier league this year 50 odd next year. The more companies like BT, ITV and even Amazon has joined the party the better it will be for us. I have no doubt other streaming services will get on this.

I think traditional television will die I don't see how small companies like SKY will be able to compete with Netflix and Amazon and co.

All it would take for example is the big premiership teams breaking away to make a new European super-league and selling the TV rights in partnership with one of the big streaming companies.

 

I don't have any issue with monopolies losing power and that in turn being beneficial cost-wise to the customer. I just don't see any evidence that it's happening from BT.

They've been around for several years, and far from grow as a viewing platform, they seem to have decreased.

It would have been better if they'd done a deal with Top Rank.

 

Just looked at my TV Planner and it looks like they're not even showing full cards and are on ITV4 SD, no mention of boxing on ITV4 HD. Off to a bad start....
