Was monroe ggg's first fight at MW? was molina crawford's first fight at SLW? No they werent. This was canelo's first fight at SMW, I consider it legit that he wanted to test the division with a soft touch, it's not the same.

Nevertheless, I agree it was a soft touch, and I agree there is no problem with a soft touch every now and then.

 

Agreed. If a guy knows he's way better than the opponent in every department, then why the need to impose a rehydration clause?

 

He was pulling stunts before the Floyd fight too: the fight with Matthew Hatton was set at a 150 catchweight by GBP, which Hatton duly made ... and which Canelo then duly missed by 1.5 lbs. To summarise: Canelo missed his own catchweight!

I think the reason people are getting hacked off about it is the fake championship aspect. You know perfectly well that Canelo is now going to be marketed as having joined the pantheon of elite Mexican legends by becoming a three weight world champion, in spite of the fact that the "championship" he won is a joke (it's not even the WBA's real world title).

If Canelo was taking on Fielding as a first step into the division before shooting for a real world title, I don't think people would have a problem with it, it's the Billy bullsh*t aspect that people don't like.
