Do you prefer Mindless Slugfests or Tactical Battles of different styles

Slugfest beats chess match every time. I came to see a fight not a runway pose off. But some high volume fast paced fights are unsatisfying if they are too low of a skill level, or the punches are all pitter pat coming from the arms and not thrown with proper technique and bad intentions.

What you want ideally is to see two highly skilled athletes going to war giving everything they've got. PAC vs Marquez IV, Duran vs Leonard I, Hagler vs Hearns, PAC vs Morales I, Morales vs Barrera I, Charles vs Walcott Iii, Pep vs Saddler IV, Pryor vs Arguello I, Robinson vs LaMotta VI, Joe Frazier vs Ali III, Leonard vs Hearns I, Holyfield vs Qawi I, etc.

That's best case scenario. Next best, if you can't get p4p guys, world class guys with tons of heart are great. Gatti vs Ward I, Chacon vs Limon IV, Charley Scott vs Gaspar Ortega, Tommy Cordova vs Freddie Roach, Mercer vs Cooper, Sosa vs Williams I, Duddy vs Campas, Katsidis vs Earl, Dunne vs Cordoba, Wolak vs Rodriguez I, Rios vs Alvarado I, Salido vs Vargas, etc.

 

Both have their appeals.

Evenly matched slugfests can be entertaining on a purely brute level, watching two men lamp the crap out of each other and seeing who gives first.

Tactical style clashes entertain on the cerebral level, and are as much mental as physical battles. They're fights to appreciate and rewatch, analyse and dissect.

Ideally you need a mix of both of course. Too much of the former and you might as well be watching two thugs in a car park. Too much of the latter and you wonder why you're bothering to watch a combat sport at all.

 

Both. I like all types of fights, i just want good competitive fights how ever they come. Its the same with the fighters. I like loud brash men like Fury, Wilder, Broner but then i like the contrast from people like Joshua, Pacquiao. Too much of the same thing would be irritating and boring so its nice to have balance across the sport.

 

Most enjoyed fights are the ones where there’s always the risk of the knockout. It’s why I’m glad HW is spicing up. I’ll take either if we got some shaky chins n crazy power

 

Mindless slugfest. I know, the perception of black boxing fans is the Mayweather, Roy Jones, Hopkins, Ray Leonard, Ali, slicksters are kings and they are but, I like to see a fight. As skilled as Floyd is his most entertaining fight since Cotto was Maidana, lie and say you didn't enjoy that bar brawling that Marcos put him through, it was golden to see the most defensive fighter of this era actually have to stay in the pocket and bang.

Chisora making every guy he faces fight to the death to the point that Wlad, Wilder, and Joshua want none of it. Hell most of his losses are robberies but he makes you pay for those robberies.

Even the great Sugar Ray Robinson fell victim one time to the brawler where he had to let the sweet science style go and fight like a dog.

I actually prefer the pre-fight negotiations: who's the ''A'' side, what percent of the purse does each fighter get, what gloves are worn, rehydration limits, rematch clauses, PPV sales percentages etc.

My favourite boxer is Barry Hearn (followed by Al Haymon), I love the way Bazza negotiated fights.

 

Slugfests.

I like tactical battles too, but there aren't many FOTY candidates in there.

 

I like a combined fight. Where both fighters are trying to knock each other's blocks off but tempered with skill. I found both GGG/Canelo fights excellent to watch because of this, except for the judging.

 

The best ones start as the latter and end as the former!

 

You can't beat a tactical slugfest.

 

Styles make negotiations.

Fleece and don't get fleeced.

Sleazeballs are born, not made.

 

Hard to say. You'll never be disappointed in a slugfest, but a tactical battle can either be utterly dire or totally enthralling.
