Chavez-Haugen had the biggest crowd ever. The undercard was also great with Norris-Blocker,Nelson-Ruelas and a title defence of Nunn against a bum.

If your saying all time, which you are, it's jack dempsey.

If of modern era, probably mike tyson

This poll is a joke if Louis and Dempsey aren't on it.

This is an ambiguous question. Does the question mean one event, a series of events or the total number in a man's career? :huh

Dempsey set the record at about 127,000, as I recall. This lasted until Chavez beat with something like 131,000.

im talking about drawing big crowds consistently....not just one event.

i have to admit that im not too familiar with the classisc boxers such as jack dempsey, joe louis, ray robinson, rocky marciano etc etc...so thats why i didnt include them in the poll.....

That's my pick too. He not only did it once, I believe he did it twice. Mind you the same can be said about Tunney, whom he was fighting both times. single gate receipts I believe it's Chavez, but that was about 50 years later, so this record was held for a hell of a long time.

If we're talking who watched the fight..ie including TV then I'd go with Ali-Frazier.

That's crazy. How many fans do you think Hopkins can attract to a fight? 3,000?

Ricky Hatton could potentially come close to, or even beat, that figure if he ever had a big fight at Wembley or Croke Park.

Exactly, how was he not a poll choice?

Dempsey is, hands down, the biggest draw in boxing history.

Chavez has the largest single attendance for a fight, but Dempsey fought before TV, before most people could afford cars, yet he could get 90,000 people to show up for a fight.

if we're talking about all time it has to be the years pre stadia/arena when there were no seating plans. it's hard to presume therefore of the fighters of that era whodrew the biggest crowds but dempsey-carpentier comes to mind as the first million dollar gate so is likely to have drawn the biggest crowd

thats the problem with boxing today tho, would 300 million be bothered to watch if they had to pay 50 dollars, worldwide 300 million could not afford it
