Dillian Whyte

Whytes decent. long reach. Solid body. His boxing IQs pretty decent as well. Good hook. Dangerous with it and great will to win. i think a lot of the time when he makes what looks like mistakes its to counteract the opponent getting the counter. He doesn't leave himself in a bad position. He,d rather look stupid than look technically great and be open to the counter etc.

Saying that I think chisora has the beating of him. Personally think Hayes nonsense will cost chisora the win tho. He's trying to make him like himself. Chisoras tank will go being that lean if unless they,ve changed chisoras style imo. That build their going fors good for speed/one shot power. But not so great for long gruelling fights like chisora usually takes part in. Chisoras looking to lean. Unless they,ve changed his style it,ll end up a problem for him. Wouldn't actually surprise me if he does try to fight like haye did tbh. They,be been putting out sparring footage of chisora being chisora battling away on the inside....wouldn't surprise me if the game plans different and the footage is a bit of a ruse.

 

Some good points on here and it’s somwhere between the middle.

He does use his reach well, his chin seems solid enough, great hook, he’s improved a lot under Tibbs and in particular his body work is getting better. He seems to be on an upward curve and getting better every fight. Is willing to take on anyone.
He does have his imperfections though. He’s often caught off balance, he is open and takes too many shots, he’s not aesthetically good on the eye in terms of pure boxing but I think he’s one of them who’s a lot better than he looks.

To say he’s **** poor is extremely harsh. He’s proven himself as a comfortably top 10 heavyweight and arguably between 4th and 6th. Unfortunately for him there’s a massive gulf between 1,2 and 3 and the rest.

 

Spot on and In terms of where he stands I wouldn’t say Ortiz, Povetkin etc are far better than him. I’d probably back him against Wilder. Fury is a level above due to size and boxing iq, and Josh is still far from perfect, being matched gloriously since day one. Old Povetkin, old, inactive Klitschko (who was one clean shot away) and Whyte (one shot away) aside from that he’s fought absolute losers. Whyte certainly deserves more credit.

 

He can't box much but he's tough and he fights dirty and he's got a decent left hook when he puts it together correct.
He's half decent at the moment but I wouldn't bank on his shelf life.
It's shocking that he's arguably a legit top 5 right now though. The lack of depth in the heavyweight division is pathetic.

I actually think Joseph Parker's superior to Whyte and was very unfortunate to have lost to him in July.

 

After all the hype I can see Chisora getting completely smashed to bits. Not sure just fitness was the key for him. It’s gonna brutal whatever happens though.

 

A heavily medicated overweight untrained and unfocused Lucas Brown isn't a good measure to how good a fighter is to be honest.

Parker turned up to lose.

This will be a decent test against Chisora to see how far he has come in his journey.

 

He has improved under Tibbs.

Similarly Nigel Benn did under Jimmy Tibbs - better lateral upper body movement, far less swinging wide and more and better body work. Similar..

 

However, N.Benn had already been to the top of the mountain and was a totally different league to D.Whyte

 

You wonder how many miles on the clock he can put on before getting a title shot!

As a fighter, he’s ok. Not someone I’d pay to watch. He’s in a weird position where he may pick up a title shot but nobody is really that interested in seeing it.

Joshua did his try-to-appear-humble-even-though-I’m-an-egomaniac bit after the fight and see what the fans want but I personally have little interest in Joshua Whyte II.

It’s a step up for Whyte, but a step nowhere for Joshua.

 

HW's in general just don't look special nowadays but it's the end result that counts.

 

You have to say that in terms of boxing skill, he hasn’t moved on from Chisora 1. He was down on 2 scorecards and that was with 2 point deductions. However, his mentality has changed, he’s patient & has become more of a sharp shooter with that left hand. If he lands that clean it’s lights out. He can still be outboxed, but he has that equaliser and an improved ability to land it, so he undoubtedly is a more dangerous fighter since Chisora 1.

Give him his shot, he’s earned it.

 

It's a wierd era, today's fighters don't appear to have the skills or the boxing brain but make up for it with brute strength, aggression, heart and determination.

Compare that to the 80's where they had the skills but lacked the heart, determination and killer instinct.

As for which era I'd rather watch, give me the game plugs every time.............

 

In fairness to Whyte, he's legitimately earned to right to be rated #4 behind the trio of Joshua, Wilder and Fury.
I'm not saying he'd beat all the others but he's done good this year, especially in his last two fights.

 

He's earned his spot as a top 5 HW now whatever you think of his ability, I think Dillian's good for boxing tbh - a warrior who comes to fight and isn't afraid to get hit. He'll probably come up just short against the top 3 though.
