One sided mismatches that actually got a rematch

But it wasn't like this was an immediate rematch. There was 4 years in between their matches where Veit rebuilt himself going 15-0 in the interim before their rematch. I would say this was deserved.

 

Tim Witherspoon - Bonecrusher Smith .. in the first fight Witherspoon pounded Smith like a drum and won a lopsided decision ... in the rematch, scheduled at the last minute because of a Tony Tubbs failed drug test, Smith upset Witherspoon to win the title ..

 

Sanchez Lopez .. Sanchez completely dominated both fights ..

 

Doesn't matter if there was 20 years in between fights - its still a rematch - and one that was always going to be as embarrassingly one sided as the first fight.

I'm probably reading too much into this - which I tend to do - I'm looking at the subject matter as an immediate rematch (or thereabouts) where a fighter is completely undeserving after getting trounced. Such as with the two I mentioned (Fourie and Rouse). There was no point in rematching these fighters. In the case of Veit, I can see it. The man had rebuilt himself into a mandatory challenger after a 1st round TKO (which can be flukey - fighters get caught cold all the time). I don't know what kind of resistance he put up in the rematch, as I haven't seen it, but he was deserving. Of course, as you pointed out, that wasn't the subject matter.

 

Wasn’t one sided.

 

For reasons I don’t understand, Butterbean fought Kenny Craven four times, tko’ing him in the first two and losing decisions in the second two.

Chris Arreola got a rematch with Stiverne after getting his ass kicked in the first fight. The same thing happened to Stiverne against Wilder except he was sort of competitive in the first fight.

Andrew Lewis was getting run over by Ricardo Mayorga until a cut from a head butt ended it in two. Mayorga destroyed him in the rematch.

Wlad Klitschko beat up Chris Byrd and Tony Thompson on two separate occasions.

Bernard Hopkins schooled Antwun Echols badly in their first fight - I forgot why they rematched. Bhop KO'd that chump in the follow-up!

 

Patterson-Liston. I'm a Patterson fan and all, but come the hell on, he did NOT deserve a rematch. As was shown by the actual rematch, which was just a repeat of the first fight.

Also, and this one pains me a bit, but Frazier-Foreman. Frazier did nothing in that first fight to show a rematch would end any differently. Also, shouldn't that kind of be the thing where you team saves you from yourself? How can a trainer or promoter in good conscience send Frazier in there again after what happened the first time? That's one of those where sanity would dictate you just take the L, understand you aren't beating that man, move on.

Only 3 or so...maybe even less months separated Napoles 1 from 2. A mite too soon, iffen' you ask me, for a rematch of any kind.
